Field Guide for rocks and minerals

I am after a field guide for rocks and minerals for Australia.

Have seen on Ebay The Illustrated Guide to Rocks and Minerals is this book any good for a novice are there any other recommendations ?

I think that is OK - the one I have used for students in years past is:

The latter is not Australian but that is irrelevant - nothing in it is relevant to localities. It is around $A25 new.

If it is Australian localities that you want, this website is useful.

Presumably you are aware of the series I have posted elsewhere here on mineral identification.

There are also state publications that help with localities.

e.g. https://museumsvictoria.com.au/books/science/gemstones-in-victoria/

This is excellent specifically for gemstones in Victoria (has maps etc)

i.e. I am a mineralogist and used to lecture the subject

Just ordered on Ebay will be taken the Grandsons out to Sofala in the New Year this will help so Grandad looks like he knows what he is doing.

I have two books that I love both by Simon & Schuster: Guide to Rocks and Minerals and Gems and Precious Stones, not cheap but excellent books.
