What are the green bits?

Digging and exploring today and found this rock... Just wondering what the green parts are?

Yeah my girl thought it might be that, but I was thinking copper when I first found it...?

Ok just did a Google and they are almost the same thing lol

Yeah it's Copper ore, Malachite. Looks similar to some samples I found near Orange.

We found a fair bit more today, near the entrance to an old mine. Is it any kind of indicator of a gold bearing area?

Could be but a lot of the time the Gold is extremely finely disseminated in the Copper Ore itself, usually very small gold values. Nearby if there are any ancient alluvial gold bearing gravels that would be the place to look.

Hmmm not too sure about ancient alluvial gravels... Plenty of rivulets, some dry, some wet, some with lots of quartz.

Looks like some test panning may be in order.
