Check out this guy he goes through it pretty well with an equivalent sluice to yours. Covers most variables and actually only gets it right towards the end but that's good as you can compare the sluice performance with the start.

Ill basically throw gravrl down the sluice and watch the flow. For my matting the rocks need to be constantly rotating to be effective behind rach 'riffle'. If they are rolling smoothly, a sand vortex behind each rock buildup can be seen. I also count how long it takes for the mat to be 'clear' or clean before next shovel. I try to keep this around 4-6 seconds.

check some of the goldhog mat videos. He is a bit anial but may help understand. The blonds need to dance to clear the sluice.
I can never find it, but there's one where Doc is explaining how to use 'gauges' to setup your sluice. When the 'gauges' are balanced, the sluice is running true. Like a little dashboard for your sluice showing in seperate gauges things like angle, water flow, pump speed etcslowflow said:
