Hello fellow PA members,

Is anyone able to advise on good sources for historical maps for metropolitan areas?

Am from northern suburbs and looking for references for old settlements, parks etc to swing my Sovereign Gt MD?

Thanks in advance guys!

Frank.

This is the Uni of Melbourne map collection link with old Melb maps. These may be of help. A visit is well worth while as well, also the Museum etc have some cracker maps.

To find the goldfields/goldmines of Melbourne, I can recommend James Fletts 'The History of Gold in Victoria'. The Collingwood goldmine and most other city or inner-city are long gone but the geology is still there - it would be interesting to have a look down at the Yarra Falls end at the back of Victoria Park.

Frank - also have a look at the 'geovic' free mapping site. It covers deep/shallow workings, creeks, crown land etc and is free. You can manipulate the data and the size and make your own maps. may be helpful around the northern areas of Melb.
