Today I MADE

Not as exciting as a Viper but just finished restoring a 120 plus year old Federation Carver chair which belonged to my great grandfather.

Completely disassembled, sanded, re jointed where necessary, polished (waxed) and re upholstered a new seat.

That's some serious weight to carry about. There have been times when I wished I had a pick like that but I wouldn't want to carry it for too long. I really like the little animals that are standing about watching you work

I'm with you MB, however it is wise to have some heavier back up in the car.
I have a 6' pinch bar and the big pick I made about 25 years ago.
The handle is 1" water pipe.

Thats the idea, handle is 4' long, you can really swing this hard.
It only sees the light of day now and again, but sure makes life easy when required.

Surprise on my doorstep!!!! A random kindness from an internet friend. (You know who you are on this forum!) He just sent me 20 square metres of 300GSM chopped strand fibreglass mat to skin the Viper with! I've also picked up a generous gift of 300 square metres of 100GSM mat. (Organised by Wally69) I am continually blown away by the kindness and generosity of people who see a project and want to support it.

Thanks to the generosity of two total strangers, I have all the fibreglass mat I need to skin the Viper. Now to work on the resin, one which does not eat polystyrene. Bote-coat or similar...

My boss was also good enough to cut out the steel support vanes for the rear turbines. Looks like I've got some welding to do.

Meanwhile, I've been working on the upper aft panel. A mate from work converted a 3D file for me, then CNC routed it out of a piece of my demolished pergola. Something went wrong with the scale in the 3D file, so it printed too small, but it came out nice so we will do it again and up the scale. You can see from the photo I have in my hand below, it really needs to fill the space in the middle of the pane. Works out to about 300mm, which makes sense because a lot of stuff made in the US rounds off to the nearest inch or foot.

While I wait for that, I've been working wood and plastic to make the rest of the panel and paint it up.

Hi Muk, I read on your thread some ware you buy handles from bunnings store, I buy my handles from one of the supplier to bunning, If you are interested and can buy fifty or so at a time using fast way freight or other carries You will save at least $5/6 a handle, Krugers super slash handles, Grafton, Ph,02/66423597, I like your work and if i can save you a $ thats good, They have a web site, Cheers, Ron.

Try surfboard resin, we had the same problem years ago and over come it by using this resin. Best of luck.

Update:

Mounted the upper aft panel then started building the edge around it.

Patching up holes and adjusting curves to improve shape before fibreglassing.
