New to fossicking and have a week to do some prospecting. Looking for gemstones, Jasper, Agate, Topaz, petrified wood, ;) sapphires and the like. Can anyone suggest some where within 6-8hrs of Brisbane was hoping to do like a loop staying a couple of nights in each town. I believe Murgon might have a few good specimens and have considered going as far as The Willows, so would really appreciate any information you have on good fossicking spots.
Thanks in advance

Gday Roadkill777, welcome to the forum.

This site has links to maps of all the designated fossicking areas in QLD, including the Willows

Chinchilla has good petrified wood but I've never been and don't know where it is exactly. If you're coming up as far as the Willows, you can head back toward the coast on the Capricorn highway and about an hour west of Rockhampton is Riverslea crossing on the Fitzroy river - the gravel banks are covered in petrifed wood, also has jaspers, chalcedonies and the like. Better get in quick for that one, the Rookwood weir will drown the area before too long. Not far from there is Mount Hay fossicking park (thundereggs and rainforest jasper)

Cheers

Just noticed that main site map has links to Chinchilla petrified wood and Swipers Gully topaz locations (south east QLD) :Y:

there is a couple of fossiking areas just out side of chinchilla they have been gone over pretty good but there is still petrified wood there just take a good pick small cheap ones wont do the job or a matik with a pick end you have to work hard the fossiking areas are marked and fenced

We went topaz hunting at Mount Surprise a couple months back. Didn't have too much luck, but an old couple at the caravan park was showing us their find.. they were going through huge cut gems a few of which worth over $100k apparently.. all found at Mt Surprise. The felt sorry for us and gave us a few 'souveniers'.
