Check out this cool new accessory for your iPhone or Android device. It turns them into a satellite phone that works in over 140 countries and it acts as a backup battery so you can recharge your device from it. It also has an SOS feature built in.

Apparently its available from Optus but I couldn't find any info on their website about it.
Saw one provider in Australia offering them for $899 + phone plan / call costs. They had an access fee of $25 per month.
Hope Optus's buying power can do a better deal than that to reduce monthly costs.
If you kept it charged and only connected it when you needed it then it might be some good insurance to carry out in the bush.
