As in can i leave my car on old esk road ?
Will i suffer a heart attack attempting the walk?

What is ment by "upper diggings".?

I will document my trip to upload to forum.... :D

i would highly suggest not walking mate.....its a bit of a hike down to the main river atleast 1-2km down rugged steep hills....the walk back would defs be heart attack or EXTREMELY slow

Mate I'll see if I can put up a map I have of the area. When you get there, there's two choices, you can go straight ahead which is the old esk (Cobb & Co) road or go to the right. If walking go to the right at a wild guess it would take about 10 minutes going down depending on how much gear you got to take down. Walking back up will take longer of course depending on how much gold you got (lol).

Let me know when your going,I'll see if I can get there and do a drive around and show you the spots if you like. I'm working less than an hour away from there at the moment.

Hey guys,

Im new to forum and look forward to sharing my Tasmanian gold fields experiences...however..working up in Qld and will be travelling through nanango tomorrow. Have a sdc2300 on board and wondering which is the best way to get into the 7mile diggings or any other fun spots on the way.
:)

G'day Tastiga, Welcome to the forum. To get to the 7 mile, if your coming from the south (Brissy) as you come into Nanango you'll see a park then the roadhouse (BP) I think on the left. On the right across from the servo is the road that'll take you to the 7 mile. Follow this road up to the first corner, there's a turn to your left, take it and follow it out. There are 7 mile diggings direction signs to follow as well. The last couple of k's is dirt, when you get to a fork in the road turn right go over a grid and straight ahead. You'll come to what I call the car park, the main diggings is down on your right. It would be good to hear how the sdc goes.

Hi, spent a few hour's today... lots of potential spots looking at the environment down in the gully s. Unfortunately no luck for me. The sdc picked up many hits, however all scrap from the early days. Interesting though one, as I picked up a slight sound and small id say 4 mm nail over 40cm deep. Frustrating. .

Found the sdc very easy to handle, Especially when finding a signal.

Im heading back tomorrow to try some of the smaller gully.

Any suggestions always appreciated :)

Hi Mick, I drove down and parked next to the old rusty bus then worked my way down stream.
(Track is very washed out) saw lots of old detector holes and lots of old workings.

On way back I parked just before river crossing and went for a look up yaraman creek (soz.. I not if I have name correct) lots of pyrite...
Again a few detector holes and a few older workings.

Thanks for your help.

The old rusty bus belong to a prospector who was looking for rubies so I was told. Back up towards the head of the creek is were the main diggings are. Down the bottom of the range on Yarraman creek is rice gully, named because of the rice size gold found there.
:) Mick

Went back today to try my luck again. A couple of small nuggets ( tiny lol)
Was a glorious day though and I added few kilos of lead, bullet shells and old can lids hehe... its ok.. I took them with me .... just help outthe next explorer.

Hi everyone,
My parents have just purchased a property on Old Esk Rd at Nanango and they would like to do a spot of detecting.
My parents have never owned a detector and I am trying to help them decide what to get.
To help them best I need a little info on the ground type down there from anyone that has been, if someone can let me know if it's hot ground or a bit on the milder side please?
They have around a grand to spend so I was thinking a Garrett At gold/ pro or a 705 instead of an older Pi unit plus they want discrimination capabilities.
I just don't want to give them a bum steer if the ground is really hot.
Thanks

Hi mate
Most of the stories i have heard about 7mile is that they swing all day digging up nails and modern rubbish lots of hot rocks...i know its not what you are asking but nilly all the prospectors i speak to say the gold thats left there is really small.
Might be a different story on private land though...hopefully hasnt been touched.
Im sure some one on here will know more...sorry i cant help you more.
Best of luck with it sounds like alot of fun is coming your way!

Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it.
Jaros by old PI I meant for 1k they would be looking at a sd series and with the bit of research I have done for them they might be better of with a higher frequency vlf detector for that area maybe? Was just unsure whether a vlf at Nanango would howl it's head off or not.
I will certainly look into the macro racer detectors, thankyou mbasko for the suggestion.
