So mystery solved. An Instagram fellow has informed me it was used to open gates whilst on horseback in the 1800s. Would be set up like a walking stick so attached to a long stem This is a pic of his he sent me
 
Looks like a measure.... see if it measures up in any direction in particular.... then do the same for the others you've found :D
 
Hi All,

Recently unearthed the following part from an interlocking brass buckle from North Booval QLD.
With the Maltese Cross and style, suspect 1890s police buckle. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
