hi. thinking of buying an ATX from America. any tips or has anyone done it? what's the go with import tax?

I'm under the impression that goods under 1k AUD are ok, or second hand gifts are fine...... hint hint.

Goods over $1000 attract 5% duty this is added to the value of the item including postage then 10% GST is applied to that (tax on a tax) so in reality you end paying around 17% extra that's the way I read it on the customs website.

Most of the sellers have been warned by Garrett, and will not ship to Australia..

You can do what i did, Have a friend in the US/Canada buy and ship it as a gift... and i still got hammered for $388 by customs..

Now i have them shipped in via FedEx.. no problem

Using USPS i got taxed... using fedex i didn't.. have used FedEx 4x since January, and everything has arrived without import duties.. each item has been at or above $1000
