hi shiftyrick,my best advice is to check out geovic earth resources,there are a few scattered old mine sites and reefs through out that area.
Some good looking ground out that way,whether its got gold or not is another question,good luck

There is. Most of it was smaller shallow mines in the immediate area, but theres places to detect and pan if you know what your looking for. Its pretty patchy for occurances on the surface though.

The few places Ive been though are either private land or trade secrets.

Hi shiftyrick, Rm Outback suggested Heathcote and Axedale. On the western side you could try the Greater Bendigo National Park either side of Sedgwick Road. Will be expecting a full report if you should go there!
