It will be the usual 'No Comment'..... Maybe they couldn't afford the Fuel as it just went up this Morning to $1.43... or they only put in $10 worth... :koala:

Could have cost us $millions..... They pass over my Place on their run 'Home' from Evans Head Bombing Range at least twice a week...

Training in a new F/35 with 2 F/A 18's right beside him.... Pretty cool...

Unlike us in our cars, when the low fuel warning light comes on they must land immediately. Happened on one of our trips in an Iroquois helicopter. The base was in sight, the light came on. We knew we could make it but the regulations say land immediately. Here we were on the side of the Bruce Highway waiting for the tanker to come out to refuel us. The tourist coaches coming past got some nice photoes.

Cheers

Nice. Wish I got some pics of that one  ..... It happened to a fellow I worked with, A Sea King Helicopter landed in his back yard near Ipswich... Lucky he's on 10ac but they had to pull down his fence to Remove it as that one had Engine Trouble... Took them a few days to 'prepare' it for removal and destroyed his back yard getting cranes and Semi's in, but he got compensated for the damage... He has a viewing platform on his roof as he is right in the flight path of Amberley Base... His kids love it...

We had 2 fly over yesterday around lunch time and I wonder if he(Fuel Issues) was the third that is usually with them...

What, surely you're not suggesting that the RAAF stuffed up, or did they, once again?

My old mate Baz Roe from Berrimah Radiators, NT, knows all about one of their stuffups. Back in 2000, during the Pitch Black exercise, a dummy missile fell off an F/A18 and slammed smack bang into the engine bay of his old Toyota trayback that he had been rebuilding.

The missile in the pic is not the actual one, it was taken away by the RAAF, so Baz made up his own. They offered him some ridiculous low compensation and I don't know what the final settlement was, but the media coverage was the best free advertising you would get anywhere.

ROFLMAO.    ... What a classic.... Best 'innocent' stuff up I have ever seen.... Lucky it was a dummy and not an activated one... You are right Best Advertising and love the number plate....
Best time in my life when I lived at Rapid Creek.... Worked for Winnellie Sheet Metal.... I was a customer of that Radiator Shop and they did a good job of fixing my Heap... :Y:

Made the Sydney Morning Herald as a page 2 ad for Toyota. The headline said "Someone finally found a way to kill a Landcruiser!" or something similar. :Y: :bomb:

I was out at the Delamere Range Facility waiting for the next wave of aircraft when we heard that all F/A 18 flights were cancelled till further notice. The F/A 18 lost the training missile as it turned for final approach for landing.

Yes and I beleive that the media done some great advertising for him as they got the first phone call about it instead of the police or RAAF.

Cheers

It scared the hell out of a lot of people (me included) who perched themselves on the top of their vehicles near the end of the runway of Darwin airport each evening to watch the jets screaming over the top of us when taking off. They were so low that we could feel the heat and blast of the afterburners.

After that incident with Baz's cruiser, it made me think twice about sitting directly in the path of not just one jet, but two taking off together - one mishap could have wiped out the lot of us. It was spectacular to watch, especially a couple of French Mirages that would hook their nose up and apply full power for a vertical climb.

I'd be happy to take the risk to see all that up close :Y: even after reading this thread.

The next Pitch Black exercise will be in 2020, usually around the end of July into August, runs for 3 weeks and it is something every 'jet freak' should witness at least once in a lifetime.

In the pic below, the red arrow points to the spot on Amy Johnson Ave in Winnellie where we used to go and watch the takeoffs.

Probably wrong place to add this yarn, it fits in with stuff ups though.

Once on HMAS Adelaide down in Bass straight, we were trialling a remote control motor boat that was towing a target.
Torpedoes meant to hit target.
Motorised motor boat disappeared - smashed by a torpedo.
recovered target Ok though

Bloody Petrol Thieves definitely siphoned Fuel out... What else could have happened...  Tho they will NEVER get fuel out of my Car... ;)

snafu, Would love to go next year to watch it.. My Dad(ex RAAF) was working up there and I had to go up and help out on a job he was having trouble with... Most nights We had dinner at the Casino in Darwin as where else would you get Lemon Butter Barra for $8 and Dad got to know a few 'Top Gun' Pilots who spent their few days R&R there often. And they introduced me to 'Flaming Lizards', man they were strong, the choice drink for Fighter Pilots.. These Guys were the trainers for the up and comers of the RAAF Fighter Jet Pilots ... And told me some Classics that went on... We also loved watching them take-off in their 'Hide and Seek" missions where one would go and hide somewhere and 2 others had to go find him...
I wanted to join the RAAF and be a Pilot when I was a young one but couldn't as I only have 10% vision in my left eye... I was Devastated, So I became a Sheet Metal Worker instead... {)
