    Gundagai Area

Thanks Dron. I remember seeing this image and found it very interesting. So when I go to Gundagai, I can find jasper, agate, topaz, garnets, gold, diamonds and possibly tourmaline. Though I bet I'll end up finding some flour gold and that's about it. I'll post whatever I find if I end up going...

    Gundagai Area

A quick check on google maps + earth shows that there is a creek actually there which means this must of been the spot they were talking about! There are multiple roads that cut the creek and I'm sure I can easily access it! Might be a bit chilly though lol. I can bring the sluice as well as...

    Gundagai Area

Can anyone confirm topaz and garnet are to be found at Gundagai? If so where? In the Murrumbidgee river, creek nearby? I need to find a place near the Riverina to take some people out to. Thanks :)

❓Your Mineral Identification Questions answered here

Also looks like Obsidian to me, but you saying it is yellowish, it could also be smokey quartz. Smokey quartz is much harder than obsidian and is fairly common to find it near Eldorado in the creek.

I have found some topaz (quarter of a kilo) with iron staining all through it but some areas of mine are clear. I found them in Tumbarumba.

❓Your Mineral Identification Questions answered here

Some look like garnets. I'm not sure about the hexagonal shaped ones. I am assuming they could be apatite??? Corundum doesn't usually have that 'glow' in this rough state . You can see the glow with garnets for example. You should test to help us get a better idea eg. scratch test or specific...

Beautiful topaz! You should try and chase some sapphire as zircon and topaz are also found with sapphire, as Rockhunter said. Good luck in your future hunts! - Jack

Does it have a visible crystal structure or is it a random shape? What general area did you find it? The first photo has the colour of a brown to orange coloured zircon. Like the ones from Hart's Range, NT.

Inland journey from Melb to Alpha, QLD

If you are planning to go through Albury, have a go at Reedy Creek, Eldorado for panning some nice gold and you can speck many, many gemstones in the gravel bars and in your tailings from sieving. There are more areas near Beechworth that have gold and gemstones, eg. the Pilot Ranges for...

    Diamonds in Almahata Sitta Meteorite

I remember that there aren't any confirmed actual craters in NSW, lots of suspected craters. I don't know how true this is but I found this map of suspected crater locations. There has been a lot meteorites found in NSW though. When people go metal detecting in WA for gold, they find meteors...

    Golden Gully near Adelong

Hi Baker, there is a lot of trash near the falls area and that's a heritage area (so a no-go zone). I would suggest finding a farmer or a landowner who is willing you to use their property to gain access to the creek. A good spot for crevicing is at the rock bars near the golden gully caravan...

Can someome identify this for me.

In regards to my 2nd post; just thought that the sand would wear away the lines and luster. It's either igneous rock or slag. I think it's obsidian or slag. - Jack :)

Can someome identify this for me.

It doesn't seem to be obsidian as it isn't a lustrous as it. What general area did you find it in?

Can someome identify this for me.

Looks like obsidian to me judging from this picture. Is it really glassy looking in real life and feels like glass? Also does it have lines like this?
