Surf Pi Build + inbuilt pinpointer

I'm close to finishing my build but have a couple of other questions. I've been looking around for a suitable pole to mount the unit on but most of the ones i have seen which would be good (eg mops) have metal poles. Some are really good and are extendable. Would a metal pole be a problem and...

Surf Pi Build + inbuilt pinpointer

The almost completed circuit board with a number of parts now replaced. I put an electrolytic capacitor (the wrong way round and something got fried. It also fried my irf 9640 mosfet.I've replaced most of the components up that end of the board and I'm getting proper power +5v and -5v to the...

Surf Pi Build + inbuilt pinpointer

These are various coils I have made and I will choose whichever works best once I get the circuit up and running again. I made a spiral coil using twin speaker cable. It worked pretty well but I found it was a bit heavy so I have reduced it to a single cable and rewound it. We'll see if it...

Surf Pi Build + inbuilt pinpointer

I finished off the electronics for the Surf Pi last night as well as the coil. Its working fine and can detect, using the coil I have built, Gold to a depth of about 22-23 cm. I'm just about to head out to Jaycar to get a JIffy box for the electronics and I'll pick up some more wire to try out...

Surf Pi Build + inbuilt pinpointer

Ben I have a couple of questions regarding your comments above. 1. Does a surf pi need 300uH inductance? 2. How did you wind your coil? 3. Have you experimented with different types of coils and if so what works best? 4. What do you mean by zero discrimination? Are you saying it cant...

Surf Pi Build + inbuilt pinpointer

Thanks Ben That's great information. I have a spare ferrite rod lying around I can use. I wonder what kind of cable to use? Anyway that aside here's the latest. My kit arrived today so this weekend will be spend soldering. I'll just start with the metal detector but include a switch and 2...

Surf Pi Build + inbuilt pinpointer

It shouldn't because the switch will only connect one coil at a time and the two will be kept separate. It remains to be seen whether it would actually work however. cheers Peter

I'm located here in Boronia in Eastern Melbourne. I own an Aldi detector and a Tracker IV. 1752 Dutch East India Company copper Duit

This is a find of some historical significance in that it may prove that the Dutch were hanging around Tasmania before Cook. Certainly they had mapped Western Australia. You should report it to Hobart's museum who may arrange a dig there to look for other coins. cheers Peter

New Personal Best....Gonna be hard to beat!!

Congrats on the haul. A couple of questions. Were the coins found in one area ie in a pile or scattered around the ground. Also any theories on why there were so many coins at this ground? The coins appear fairly recent so I imagine that the ground must be used for carnivals or some other...

Basic tips/experiences coin shooting on beaches

Thanks for the replies. I mentioned the corroded item I found at Kilcunda which I could not identify. After using some electrolysis I was able to remove a lot of the gunk and buried within was a 1918 penny which was a real surprise. Its amazing to think that that penny has probably been there...
