Where are people at this Spring? Any hot spots? :)

Yes I know you won't want to tell me and that is ok. I was just thinking of easing back into it in the greater Dunolly to Inglewood area for a few days... :) I'm not a complete beginner just haven't been around here for a bit!

    Took the Plunge on GPX5000

Lashed out on a 2nd hand GPX5000 today, still has a couple years warranty. Just could not stomach the price of the 6000 (or woe betide, the GPZ). Hopefully I'll have some fun! Once I learn the bloody thing!!

    An interesting arrangement/pattern Tarnagulla Victoria

One for the more geologically inclined.... Some very interesting distributions of gold around the Tarnagulla Granodiorite (G351). Big nugget country, some great regional structures, nice!

I'm Back And In The GT.

Just when I thought I was out, they (gold) dragged me back in... Have moved to Bendigo focusing my eye on the Tarnagulla area b/c I could get out there after work potentially. Any one else in the area?

    Random communications question

I hate to say it, but this is a "delete if not allowed" question. I run a professional writing and editing business and I am wondering if people would see value in a straightforward letter writing service? Whether it is for your own attempts to redress local injustices (dispute bills) or to...

How Many Detectors And Why? Confess!

I'm curious as to how many metal detectors you gold prospectors own. Given that the more crazy/gold-fevered you are, the more you are likely to own, I am still interested in your whys and wherefores also, I have not found any gold with my Nox 600 and am eying a gold monster already...

First interesting finds! and Question re identification

Apart from the 1860 lion half penny (John Andrew And Co General Drapers issue), which is a fabulous find... I came across the strangest "nugget" ever. Is this lead? Silver? Just slag or a weirdly deformed bullet????? It weighs nearly an ounce! (29 grams). I wish it were yellow. Maybe if I paint...

The Equinox 600 Certainly Finds Things!

... But not gold, yet! I've started to notice that anything on a -5 to -7 showing as quite deep is usually ferrous - old nails typically. Then really rusty stuff can do positive numbers if it's shallow, which is frustrating. The weirdest one is charcoal! Yes fully burnt wood from the bushfires...

First day! No Gold But Loved It.

Went out around Blackwood today, scratched around some old workings near the Countess track. Also just tested out my new 4wd (2011 VW Amorak) which turns out to be a ripper! No gold but did detect two rusty nails and a shotgun cartridge? Can't wait to get out again, especially Nugget Creek...

Excited for first outing tomorrow in Vic gold country!

So I've managed to swing the day off so I'll be swinging my detector for the first time - going to head for the Blackwood area or maybe Daylesford (Vic)! I've copied this from another post in case anyone missed it: I am a geologist and used to work in gold exploration in WA. I now live near...

    Daylesford - Bells Reef Rd

Hello all, Newbie here. Before I rush off and go into debt on a 4wd and camping gear hahaha, I was wondering if the tracks in the Daylesford area to the left (east) of Bells Reef Rd are any good for a 2wd small car? I've heard this is a decent area to prospect, from Bells Reef road towards and...

    Hi from Victoria

Hello all, New to prospecting, not new to gold, as you might be able to tell from my display name! Live fairly close to the Vic goldfields and looking to find some places to go looking!
