This may be a bit long in the tooth for some, but bear with it as I have tried to cover everything that is relevant and hopefully haven't left anything out. A few members have previously mentioned Starlink satellite Internet in comments and posts. Asking if it was worth the price and did it...

27mhz or UHF CB radio discussion

300 Watts! 😂 Like to see anyone hold that in their hands, let alone using it right next to their scone. I used to have a Yaesu quad-band portable, at 7 watts it got awful how in the hand after awhile, although it was a very small radio. The Anytone 878 doesn't get hot at 7 watts, just chews the...

Yep certainly do, dependent on your location in Australia, see map a few posts up. You can also have the mobile/RV option for an extra $35 per month. Interestingly, they also have a maritime package as well, which can be paused when not in use - not sure if this also pauses any payments during...

Yep MultiPSK will work well too. Whatever radio you get, you will need a CAT controller for it - A. To control the radio and B. To TX/RX data via your computers/laptops sound card. The reason I pumped HRD was it is the full package, logbook, digital modes, cat control plus heaps of other stuff...

Had to fork out for Starlink Internet, as NBN Satellite has sucked up all my patience.

I would also recommend getting the HRD software, it is a really nice package. Whilst DM780 in HRD does not support all digital modes, it does most of them. Or you can use FLdigi which is free, but takes a bit more to drive. HRD is a good package though.

FT8 in my opinion is a wank! It is nothing more then two computers (albeit connected via a radio) handshaking and that's it - That's what the FT proponents define as a contact and get all wobbly at the knee's over. Olivia (as other modes do) require user input. You have to type your...

    Ham Radio

When I was portable one time I had an attack of corellas. Same thing, wire chewed to bits. I just happened to have some lengths of conduit in the trailer, since I was out for the ARRL 10m contest it kinda worked out well, made a new dipole and encased it in the conduit. Bastards never got...

Same boat here, save getting on local repeater to listen to the ident now and then! Never done 23 as yet, I did do AE (Aircraft Enhancement) when I was on Mt. St Leonard during the Summer VHF/UHF contest. Canberra on 2m was my best contact via AE. I am not big on the yapyap side, I prefer digi...

Just out of interest, do you do any digital mode work? Olivia, MSK, Hell, PSK etc?

    4XP that is pretty snazzy!

Looking for a 27mhz CB radio with USB/LSB

Doesn't do 27MHz, that is a 10m (Amateur band) radio only.

Ah yeah fair enough. Didn't think it was native. What's the performance like on them? See hornet says they have a TTL issue.

Didn't think the UV-5R's had BT capability.

Since you mentioned me I will add to this... First the 1m antenna part. It will depend on the type of radio, more-so frequency it operates on as to antenna length. Yes, you can buy those broomstick antennas (if people seen how they worked internally they would probably feel a bit ripped off)...

Are you an amateur? I don't get on much these days, but on HF my preference is digital. Olivia, MSFK, PSK, Hell etc.

I would like to share with you these Pictorial works of a Camping and Gold Fossisking Trip to Merrijig Creek near Bullumwaal, Gippsland, between Bairnsdale and Omeo . . 26-12-34 to 17-1-35. Davies, H., photographer. Very cool indeed...

Looking for a 27mhz CB radio with USB/LSB

Not so much the legalities, but more the performance. They are shockers, it gave no better performance (on SSB) than a UHF hand-held in open terrain.

What do you use the G5 on Jaros? I have one - makes a great shortwave antenna, albeit with a tuner. Same deal with a TX they need a tuner, although they do work on 20m without one. Getting them high enough is the challenge, as the ladder line should ideally be vertical as it is part of the antenna.

27mhz or UHF CB radio discussion

Just as a heads up for anyone looking at a 27MHz Hand-held whilst I know someone here will argue the point - they are useless to say the least. Hungry on batteries, range is very poor even on sideband, they are heavy, the antenna supplied is a dud - base loaded quarter wave, you would get...
