How good are our fancy new metal detectors?

I remember you at the Niagra Dam muster......From memory you found nothing, even though we did point you to where we had found gold with our Minelab detectors. My wife Lauren found the most gold that muster with her 2300. You wouldn't hear a bad word about the Garrett back then, although we...

    Living with Electric Vehicles

The recommendation on the F150 Lightning, when towing 1500kg, is to charge every 160km. It didn't say what the distance to charge would be when towing 3000kg but you could take a wild guess.

    Australia Post

I had two parcels, from the same NSW company, posted the same day, from the same post office, at the same time, to the same address. One went Sydney, Perth, Geraldton and was delivered in 7 days. The other, went Sydney, Brisbane, Redbank, Brisbane, Parkes NSW, Sydney, Parkes NSW, Perth...

What's Magnetic, But Not Picked Up By A Metal Detector?

This could well be a stony iron meteorite. Some, although slightly attracted to a magnet, won't give a signal on a detector. Don't overly damage it or wet it. If you can grind a small window in the surface you may see some silver flecks on iron/nickel. Hopefully you have the GPS co-ords for the...

    Coil advice for the 4500

The 14" Coiltek Camo is a great coil but not particularly rugged. The NF 12" Evo is every bit as good +, and is a much more robust design.

    R.I.P. - Passing of Famous/Notable Persons

Met him on a number of times, mainly when he was drunk. He always had a wicked sense of humour and a laissez faire attitude to life. Loved him in Croc Dundee.

    New Finds

I found this meteorite on 15th September 2021 North of Meekatharra. It consists of five pieces, all found within a one square meter area and have a total weight of over 7kg. The WA Museum is classifying it and think it may be part of an already reported/documented find from 12km away. It...

    Meteorite

Definitely looks like a piece of a meteorite. Looks sort of rusted and has regmaglypts. A lot of meteorites break into pieces before they hit the ground and have straight line breakages. :Y: It looks like it's probably an ordinary chondrite so a window ground into the surface should show small...

NF Advantage versus NF Evolution 14x9

Prior to the release of the Evolution series of coils, my go to coil was the 12 Advantage. I also used the 17x11 Advantage. Running the 12 Evo across the same ground with similar settings was an eye opener. The sensitivity and depth was markedly better than the Advantage resulting in me...
