Settings for any machine are to suit the conditions and ground on the day, not the coil, not the town. Factory settings are fine, just read the manual so you understand the main things and why you would adjust them ie too much emi, too much ground noise etc

Its look to me like they are charging heaps extra to take away a huge amount of settings. It's great for the many people who never got their heads around gpx timings and gain/stabilizing etc but its limiting the manual controls makes me feel like it can be beaten by a good user of a gpx 5000...

Personally I've never had a situation where I can make use of the sharp timing, but after thinking about it there are a few good spots where I can run sens extra with minimal ground noise (emi was controlling the gain setting) so I should give sharp a try over those patches just incase it might...

The 800 has all those frequencies available as single frequencies, the 600 still uses the 20 and 40khz but only in "multi" In park and field 2 it leans more on the high frequencies so you really arent losing much to the 800 since most would prefere multi vs 20/40 single anyway.

If you think about it the last gpx came out before the modern flat wound coils, so its timings were based off using the older bundle wound coils. This might be a gpx with timing tweaks to make better use of flat wound coils with the possibility of using a new range of minelab flat wound coils...

Think of the modes like the gearbox in a car (with the numbers in reverse), yes top gear might be the fastest but you dont want to be doing hill starts in 6th gear. If the ground is tame like a flat open road you dont want to be in first gear (high mode #). You drive the car to suit the road...

Have you figured out if its ground noise or emi? They are 2 completely different unwanted interferences.

My father has found many .1s and even a .08g with his 4000 and 14" elite. It's an awesome setup.

Years ago when I raced classic motocross there was little trick where you fill the pit with superglue and rub it back, lasted for years and saved the fork seals.
