From Equinox 800 to GPX 4500

Settings for any machine are to suit the conditions and ground on the day, not the coil, not the town. Factory settings are fine, just read the manual so you understand the main things and why you would adjust them ie too much emi, too much ground noise etc

Minelab GPX6000 release, general information and questions

Its look to me like they are charging heaps extra to take away a huge amount of settings. It's great for the many people who never got their heads around gpx timings and gain/stabilizing etc but its limiting the manual controls makes me feel like it can be beaten by a good user of a gpx 5000...

    SHARP Timing in GPX's

Personally I've never had a situation where I can make use of the sharp timing, but after thinking about it there are a few good spots where I can run sens extra with minimal ground noise (emi was controlling the gain setting) so I should give sharp a try over those patches just incase it might...

    QED PL3 package deal

I'll chuck in my 2c, I got to have a go with an sdc for the first time a few weeks back when my neighbour came around with his brand new 2300. First thing we did was swing it over my test patch that I have had in the ground for years. The sdc going flat out couldnt hit the .22 bullet that even...

    Minelab Equinox 800 vs 600

The 800 has all those frequencies available as single frequencies, the 600 still uses the 20 and 40khz but only in "multi" In park and field 2 it leans more on the high frequencies so you really arent losing much to the 800 since most would prefere multi vs 20/40 single anyway.

    Minelab SD2100 tips, settings, questions

I used a 2200v2 for a bit of fun vs my 4500. On 2gram+ sizes there isnt a huge amount of difference in mild soil. When the ground gets tough the lack of adjustability becomes apparent and it didnt like the new flat wounds sensitivity. Big difference in sub gram stuff with the 4500 miles in...

    Minelab Equinox 800 vs 600

I bough the 600 and I probably wish I got the 800 after really enjoying the equinox. I bought it for coins but ended up buying the 6" inch coil and turning it into a lazy gold machine. I had a gm1000 at the same time and sold the GM and kept the nox 600 for gold. The 800 has more adjustment...

Minelab GPX6000 release, general information and questions

If you think about it the last gpx came out before the modern flat wound coils, so its timings were based off using the older bundle wound coils. This might be a gpx with timing tweaks to make better use of flat wound coils with the possibility of using a new range of minelab flat wound coils...

    QED pl2 help

Think of the modes like the gearbox in a car (with the numbers in reverse), yes top gear might be the fastest but you dont want to be doing hill starts in 6th gear. If the ground is tame like a flat open road you dont want to be in first gear (high mode #). You drive the car to suit the road...

Minelab GPX 4500 information and questions

Have you figured out if its ground noise or emi? They are 2 completely different unwanted interferences.

    Minelab GPX4000 tips, settings, questions

My father has found many .1s and even a .08g with his 4000 and 14" elite. It's an awesome setup.

    Polishing Chrome Motorcycle Forks

Years ago when I raced classic motocross there was little trick where you fill the pit with superglue and rub it back, lasted for years and saved the fork seals.

I wanted to buy a QED

I'd say the qed might have the edge when tuning towards small gold but the reality is learning the machine and where to look is far more important that if one machine is 10% better than the other. Give whichever is the lesser machine to an experienced user and her will find more gold if you're...

Had no idea this happened, speedy recovery mate, that sounds like one hell of an ordeal!

    Detech 18" Concentric Coil

So in DD it transmits on the big winding and receives with the small, in Mono it transmits on the big or small? And then receives with both? It would be interesting if these type coils took off and you could get an in line switch to isolate the individual winding so you could select concentric...

    Minelab Gold Monster 1000

I keep reading contradicting views which is annoying for such a simple machine. Many say that auto mode has something to do with ground balance. It does not, the auto modes automatically adjusts the level of sensitivity to the ground feed back. The first auto setting is for automatic quiet...

    Minelab GPX4500 tips, settings, questions

The rx GAIN amplifies the return signal, so basically it turns up what you can hear, the good and bad noises. The stabilizer smooths out the signal, so if it seems a bit jittery you can turn it down (turning that stab down actually increases its effect on smoothing). Smoothing the signal out...

    Minelab GPX4500 tips, settings, questions

Run fixed if you're running in enhanced timing because it already eliminates most of the ground noise, just remember to ground balance every now and then or if it seems bit noisy. When you get a bit more adventurous if I'm in dodgy ground but want to run sens extra or normal timings I'll run it...

    Impact

No issue, just that for spending all that money and all your experience chasing gold I'd like to have a gold finding detector. Sometimes though the challenge of finding gold with a lesser machine can be more fun I guess. I get a lot of enjoyment finding gold with equinox 600 even though I...

    Impact

OTR, can I ask why have you persisted so long with the impact and not bought a dedicated pulse induction gold detector when you main target is gold?
