CTX 3030 Adventures

G'day All,

Finally got my new 3030 yesterday. Stuck in the goldie program and went to a reserve that I have done well on in the past with the 705.

What a difference the 3030 makes.

Coins were popping up everywhere I thought that I flogged with the 705.

All up I got $72.25 in decimals.

A 41 and a 51 roo penny, a 40 three pence.

An old English Britannia half penny (cannot make out any date)

A 925 silver ring with a amethyst.

A leopard pendant, looks like the eyes were gems but are missing. (Seems to be made of brass)

Thanks Duck. After half an hour of ultrasonic cleaning and about the same in bicarb rubbing. The half penny turns out to be a 1826 George IV.

One of the advantages you have is the fast recovery speed
Compared to a cheapier machine hence the more finds.

For coins/relics the 3030 is the machine. The secret is it's faster processor. I logged about 1300 hours on the ETrac and now over 100 hrs on the 3030. The 3030 will find stuff amid the concentrated ferrous sites while other machines will miss it. (including Etrac as I found out). I only run the silver program with some modifications regarding the sounds. High ferrous sounds like grunts to me and is a great tool to avoid wasteful digging.

The silver program was set up for Australian coins/relics specifically. When I'm relic hunting I open the screen right up and hunt by sound only (1st learn with a Tesaro). When a good sound comes in I double check it with the numbers and nice colours. Solid red (not moving around) is what you want to see. More yellow means more rust.

Good luck and you will have fun. Its an advanced machine when you start to work it out. To do this (work out all potential) however will take a good 100 hours at least IMO.

Had mine since Jan and should have it paid off by decimal finds only in about a month. Deal with wife was paid off in year.

So far I have about 3 hours on it. So much to read and learn.

I'm sure after 100 hours I will go back to the same reserve and find even more.

Using a CTX 17" Double-D Smart Coil for these finds?

No, just the standard 11".

I'll be getting a 6" soon.

Too much trash everywhere.

I have used the 6" coil a few times for trips away and didn't have much luck, but that is not saying anything. It will slow you down but if you know an area that is producing and has trash it will be worthwhile. I am not sure of the power loss with a larger coil. The standard coil struggles to find small items, but coins and jewelry etc... it is very effective. Keep up the good work and tips certainly help. I am still learning with mine as well.

If that's just a first run on the ctx, I'd love see what you come up with after clocking a few hours on it, great stuff.
