Quick and simple specific gravity test for gemstones

Found this whilst ferreting around on the net, thought it might help a few with identifying stones

Be sure to Tare your scales with the paper clip empty

Except that he says he suspends the stone on the paperclip... So not actually weighed. Not sure how this works ... I keep thinking of displacement , but that dosnt seem to equate yet .

Thanks Col, just used a slither of sticky tape at 0.01g

Specific gravity = 7.64........... Bronze nugget ?? Didn't think Australia had a Bronze Age, was it a common colonial material?
