What are these tabs / channels for on Minelab SD series, GP series, early GPX control boxes?

Nenad should know the answer to this question!

Does anyone know what these moulded plastic tabs were designed for on the following Minelab detectors: SD 2100, SD 2100v2, SD 2200D, SD 2200v2, GP Extreme, GP 3000, GP 3500, GP 4000 ❓

They are not present on the GPX 4500, GPX 4800, GPX 5000.

Sorry missed this one, but Ian is correct. They were removed for a few reasons, but mainly to allow greater movement of the control box. I.e. you can slide it further back to counterbalance a big coil. Also meant you could slide your control box off the shaft by just loosening the wingnuts, and not needing to separate your armrest right out.
