Hi,
We are a couple of retirees who like camping and gold panning.
We have spent each dry season for the last 30 years in the East
Kimberly panning in dry areas using baby baths filled with water
in which to pan.
We are based near the East coast and are seeking a panning location
not quite so far away and Cape York Peninsula beckons.
We have visited the Cape once and have prospected twice at Maytown
so we have superficial knowledge of road, climate and topographical conditions.
Weipa based prospectors have had good things to say about the Wenlock
area making reference to free camping and numerous places suitable for panning.
Can anyone comment on gold panning prospects in the Wenlock area?
Information on roads, possible camp sites, water sources within about 20km of
panning areas would be valuable.
Incidently.if anyone would like any information on prospecting at Hall's Creek in WA
we might be able to provide some data.
Cheers,
Grey Panner.

There is a member here that has spent quite a bit of time up that way Coen and Weipa etc.
He did tell me of a spot he likes to go and camp that is not too far off the road.
I will try to get hold of him and see if I can get more info.

I spoke to my mate and he only has some info on the Coen river.
He sent me this:

Only in the coen river just over the second bridge turn right and camp on the river. Any little boil holes of which there are many will have gold. All the crevices held a bit as well. Best but I got was .5 gram. Beautiful spot to spend a day or two. There is a bedrock section about two hundred meters long from the bridge to the windy loo.

Hi Simmo,
Your information on Coen sounds promising and Coen is much more accessible than Wenlock.
Your comment on Wolverton Station is noted.
Cheers,
Grey Panner
