Does anyone have any history with Tesoro Lobo as am currently looking at buying one that's forsale . Have read reviews about Lobo , IE: GREAT ON THE GOLD , GREAT DISCRIMINATION AND GREAT GROUND BALANCE but would prefer someone's first hand knowledge as (I guess) most reviews are written by manufacturers and retailers of said products ??. Call me cynical (a tad perhaps) but do view first hand knowledge as more valuable . Cheers Rawiri

Kia ora Rawiri, welcome to PA.

The Lobo is just an old-school single frequency VLF detector, with auto ground-tracking. That's fine in the USA, but out of date since the 90's here in Australia, where the ground mineralisation is much worse and the nuggets are ever smaller nowadays. Users have also noted that the Lobo is badly imbalanced, with too much weight too far forward on the handle for comfort during lengthy detecting sessions. Discrimination is totally irrelevant to nugget hunting - you will miss gold if you utilise it.

Also, in case you don't know, Tesoro went out of business a few years back, so availability of spares or repairs if needed, is dubious at best.

If you want to use a VLF detector for nugget hunting, modern lightweight, high frequency machines like Minelab's Gold Monster are your best bet.
