Sources of Historical Maps and other resources

Hi, I am looking for advice on where or how I might trace gold and mineral and pegging out maps of mine and my grandfathers from as far back as 1980 and historical maps that I might peruse for further info too if anyone could point me in the right direction as to advice of museums and libraries that may have some info or be able to give further advice please.
