Off to the cop shop tomorrow to hand them in.
Very intrigued to know how and why they came to be where I detected them.

Ive just recently returned from a camping trip to the South East (SA) .
I did some very limited detecting as this was a birthday getaway for the wife, so I was being a good boy and paying attention to other stuff.... anyway with my limited swinging time, I did manage this lot...

No, definitely not used to clean, the cleaning process is to remove gun powder residue. These are unfired, most likely target rounds imo due to the slug being flat.

Definitely a weird find :argh:

Goes on the end of a Ram Rod for loading musket balls, (maybe) they come in a few configurations,
never seen one like this.

I think Sandta has nailed it..... it measures 10.9 mm. at its widest point, the same as these 44 caliber slugs.

I assume a strip of cleaning cloth would be wound around the jagged part of the shaft.

:inlove:

I heard Dirty Harry was down there fishing recently, looks like some punk might have got lucky

Liking the Legend so far compared to what you have used in the past?
Yeah mate, I’m finding the Legend is like comparing a scalpel with a butter knife when using the 6” coil in trashy spots. It can hear a good target and separate it amongst ferrous rubbish much better than my Simplex or Multi Kruzer. It still pulls plenty of non ferrous, like can slaw and pull tabs, but you still have to dig those targets with any machine ..... but yes definitely loving the customisation of the Legend and it’s stable target ID’s, not to mention the fairly reliable Ferro Check feature.

Looks like someone was shooting at the beach.
Most probably buried so as not to get caught with them, I would not be surprised if the pistol was in the sand too, somewhere....

Semi wadcutter softpoints, 158gr, 357magnum - target or a hunting round, I used to use them 40+ years ago
The box looks like they used 5 rounds, is it four across? That would mean only 36 in a pack which is unusual, so it could be dated just by the packaging quantity. Pistol was a revolver, possibly even 5 chambered, so that could be narrowed down too.

Thanks for that feedback GH.... and yes, I have searched for the gun also, but no luck there.
The package is for 36 rounds... 4 rows of 9.
Never heard back from the police.... so a bit of a mystery.

Yeah that was a strange find. Seems like you have a knack for that 'different' find thing.

SAPOL wont care, they went into a box for destruction. A good thing too.

Mod edit: information regarding disassembly of ammunition removed.
