Hello.

I was trying to figure out the best way to set a 1.2ct sapphire that is not faceted in jewellery for myself,
If anyone knows a way or has any suggestions on how todo this whilst still being able to see the sapphire because it is not that big.

Thank you :D

Do you mean as set in a pendant? If so, measure and search for settings close to your measurements either on ebay, lagems, etc then take your stone and setting to a lapidary club and ask someone to set it or to a jeweller who will charge you nicely.

There's a lass in Victoria who casts silver around the rough gems, makes rings, pendants, all sorts. Volcanic gems can take the heat so it can be done with either Silver or Gold, she also does teaching tours though that might be on hold right now. I think the process is making a wax of the ring, setting the stones before creating a mould and melting the wax out, then pour the metal and break the cast open and polish.

Have a look at some YouTube videos of DYI cuttlefish casting, delft clay casting or precious metal clay using rough sapphires

Some ideas:

You could also consider tumbling it or using a dremel to get a polished finish on the rough shape before having it set. If the sapphire looks clean internally this could help highlight the quality and colour without facets.
