Ok, since lockdown has ended I've managed quite a few trips with the 6000 and the 11" Mono coil.

Touch wood, haven't blanked out on any trip so far, sadly (?) the largest piece has gone only a not so whopping 0.46g largest, quantity wise, 11 bits.

So, it's doing what the SDC was, finding the small stuff and the occasional deeper bit of junk (to just shy of 18" -large handmade nail, yes it could just as easily been a good nugget. The occasional piece may not have been within SDC range, the others I'm picking up perhaps (??) because the 6000 signal is marginally better on the ears.

Really, really curious about any 17" Mono users experience .... while I like finding gold each and every trip I'm willing to forego that pleasure while searching "off diggings" for that larger nugget that may be lurking there. Yes I realise you have to walk over one to ping it (and the 11" should pick it up) but thinking that's really only going to be successful if a decent 4500/5000 user hasn't been over the ground (rare in Vic. except for private property).

Look forward to hearing of your experience. May change my current thinking on waiting to see what other coils are in the pipeline.

Cheers T.

Hi Tom,
I've been trying out the 17" only for short periods but finding it a bit hard to use for a long time to heavy requires a harness and I don't want to go that direction.
Today's holes with the 11" mono.

Yeah the extra weight is a bit of an issue (not getting any younger) .... that's the main reason I didn't get a GPZ.
Haven't heard of too many in Victoria having success with it, maybe nobody has bothered getting one?
And yes even the 11" on the 6000 results in deep holes ..... percussion cap at around 14" ......
Guess the next one could be yellow.

I did my usual stint away at the end of last winter. I used the GPX6000 instead of the GPX4500 and was very pleased with the results although it's still nice to pick up the 4500 and give the ears a rest.

The result for 5 weeks away was 800 pieces for 169g. The previous year's (usually twice the time period) on the GPX4500 I found less nuggets but three times the weight in gold. Maybe the big ones weren't there but my biggest over those five weeks was 10g and the 4500 gave me those every week with a few bigger ones thrown in once in a while. I'm still waiting to see a big one come from the GPX6000.

WA is a bit different to Victoria where our known goldfields are more defined and hence more heavily detected, That's why I was asking about Victorian experiences.
Nice finds though.
