Hi
Not sure if this the right forum section, but I was reading an early 1970s diving book and they showed a picture of an anchor they salvaged next to a roaring fire. The caption only says firing the anchor. Assuming it's for preserving it, any clues why fire?
Cheers

Maybe they were wanting to burn all the sea growth, crustaceans and the like off it. If it had been in the water for any amount of time it would have been latched onto by lots of critters. A few days out of the water and it would begin to smell like a fishmongers bin on a 40 degree day.

I was wondering if it was that as well as a rapid drying process or burning the salt off
