Hi all,
Have lurked for too long, time to come out of the shadows. Although here primarily to learn about detecting, some recent posts by Goldierocks made me realise that knowledge is meant to be shared and I've done a few things that might be relevant ....

SA based geologist and geophysicist for 20 years. Bounced around every industry getting experience in fields as diverse as uranium/base metals/graphite exploration, UXO detection, GET detection, locating historic graves, groundwater location, airborne geophysics interpretation and a few other things. Data mining, compilation and manipulation using GIS is a specialisation.

Have used pretty much every bit of geophysical equipment EXCEPT detectors, go figure! Most recently been playing with next-gen massive array GPR systems to map utility networks (yawn).

About to start a new job as an expl geo targetting ..... you guessed it ...... gold! Pretty much my dream job.

Medium term goal is to leverage the last 20 years of experience and make a living roaming Australia searching for shiny things!

Gotta run, it's my turn to push the radar for a bit.

Interesting to have another rocklicker onboard (well sounds like you're a geophysicist really, but I'll try not to hold that against you!) Nice work on the turn to gold, I'm trying to get back in to that.

I had a colleague in WA who was a a lively chap, a geophysicist, and he was fond of saying that "Geophysics has never lost an orebody!" :lol:

There really is nothing like the taste of dirt in the morning to connect you with the earth! I had to give up the habit for a few years during my radioactive period - spitting on a rock just isn't the same! So common!! :lol: And as far as I know, grinding a bit of sediment between the teeth is still the quickest way to figure out whether you have silt or clay!

Love your mate's comment about geophysics - he is dead right. The other one i hear all the time is that when asked by a geologist where the ore body is, the geophysicist replies "Where would you like it to be?"

Seems to be plenty of work in gold these days mate, especially over west. I decided not to go west (actually my 9yo decided I will not go west) for the moment. I will just be happy to get back to the civilised SA climate of 45 deg and 0 humidity. Currently working where it is mid 30's and 90 to 100 humidity every day. Killing me!!!

G'day Doug,

Only in Australia, not sure how much I can say about where but very generally within or adjacent to post WW2 ranges.

Guessing you were in SE Asia?

Suspect it will he a while until I'm able to report personal finds but until then happy to live vicariously through posts from you all!
 
I met a guy in Richmond QLD that was doing human remains location with GPR and some flash software that I think he wrote.
He found quite a few misaligned headstones and some remains without headstones.
It was very interesting.

Both Middle East and SE Asia. Done some in Aust while I was still in the RAAF.
