Hi Folks

Just spent a couple of hours wandering through the local bush looking at how the forest is recovering after the fires went through. Areas that I used to know like the back of my hand now seem quite foreign and stark. Landmarks and my perception of distance has changed in some cases due to the lack of undergrowth. Old gold workings are now barren and uncovered. New secrets start to reveal themselves due to the open bush environment. Thought Id share a few pics of what I saw.

The old burrawangs that were badly burnt are finally coming back to life.

The epicormic growth has started on many of the trees. Its always great to see this stage.

A hard rock mine that was hidden from view a few months ago. It was only 20m off the track. Id never seen it before.

A view that used to stop at 10m, now extends for half a km.

A quartz outcrop that was spotted from 300m away.

Just a good feeling seeing this up close.

The old timers put in a lot of work to move water around. Would never have seen this before the fires.

Many of the overgrown workings are now visible.

What started out as a depressing sight two months ago, is slowly starting to show signs of life.

Cheers

Yeah , it is funny how a place you were familiar with is now nearly foreign.

There was a fire that ripped through Scarsdale many years` ago and it completely changed the landscape from what i knew it as when i was cutting wood or driving the car around . All the tracks were recognised by a landmark such as a fallen tree or a stump on the side of the road or a bush or a hole or something else before the fire ,but afterwards it all looked the same. Lost my sese of direction for awhile ,too.

That parched land will eventually grow back to somewhere near what you remember it , but never the same .

FOZ
