Yep. That’s what I’m thinking. Picked up a couple of 9k gold rings a few months ago that I thought were 5c pieces. You just never know what’s going to turn up.

Hi Folks,

Needed to get out for a while yesterday so I decided to have a play on a beach that had quite a bit of exposed rock shelf from the recent big swells. I have found coins there before but I was really only expecting a few sinkers to build up the lead collection. Found a few spendables and was really happy to score a 1947 florin. A bit worn (as you would expect) but a nice finish to the day.

Went back to the same spot to have a bit more of a scratch around. The last two afternoons didn’t turn up much except for a few sinkers and a few coins.

One nice little worn sixpence (that I did clean up)

and a couple of toasted half pennies

The interesting part of the detect was that most of the finds were at the ends of open channels in the rocks.

These areas would have had a lot of water movement during the rough seas and I am guessing the waves would have pushed heavies in from out wide. Would be interested to hear about other possibilities from those members who have more knowledge in this area.

cheers

I got a 9k 15g bangle once that I thought was a bottle top and an 18k 7g white gold ring that I thought was 10c. Definitely pays to dig everything on the beaches.

Went back to one of my local haunts for a bit of a play yesterday afternoon. It’s been about 6 weeks since my last swing so I was interested to see if anything would turn up after a few rough seas. Was actually surprised to see that a small area of rocks had reloaded with goodies over that time. Looks like one coffee for my effort. All finds were sitting on bedrock in small crevices.

A three pence looks like it may be 1951

and the sixpence… not sure as yet

Will have to see how it cleans up.
