I am heading out on a family camping trip and am woundering is there any gold/gemstones in the kangaroo valley (NSW) or surrounding area?

Don't think Oallen Ford is too far & plenty of members frequently go there.
Might be worth doing some research on Nerriga & Yalwal as well.
Have read that there were nuggets up to 240 ounces found around Nerriga but I think the whole area is probably better known for fine gold.
Edit: also at kangaroo valley reports of jasper, petrified wood, agate etc. with one access point that may be a possibility near Hampden Bridge on the Kangaroo River.
 
Some nice petrified wood and jasper can be found if you are into your rocks.
Have not heard anything about gems but....
I lived in the valley as a kid and remember a friend of my dad's who used to do a bit of gold panning (i cant remember the spot for the life of me) but he showed me some small bits, bout match head size. Now this was 25-30 years ago but i swear he said it was from the vally somewhere.
I have done a few pans and never seen a hint of gold but the memory and the story keep me thinking :cool:
