In addition to our forum members who are keeping an eye on very cheap 5000s on ebay etc, a check of the Minelab site has flagged a list of dealers to be aware of. the link is at:

http://www.minelab.com/aus/consumer/where-to-buy/buyer-beware/counterfeit-manufacturers

I am not involved in Minelab - just use their products and don't want to see any of you fine folk ripped-off.

An example of the warning from Minelab -

be aware of

Alibaba Group
Hangzhou Office:
18-19/F, Xihu International Building A
391 Wen Er Road
Hangzhou 310013
China
Tel: (+86) 571-8502-2077
Fax: (+86) 571-8526-9066

and why? They are selling GPX 5000s for US $1000 - 1500.

Alibaba Group is not the company dealing in them. Alibaba is just a trade website with thousands of companies on it.
At my last check there are about 5 companies on Alibaba selling them

I think the Minelab warning is more because Alibaba allow sellers of the fake machines to trade on their online shopping websites. They may need to add eBay & Gumtree to that warning?

most of them a china, who would of thought?
ok note to self, don't by anything from china, unless you want cheap products that will most likely break in a few days
