Hi Folks
Just had my first swarm for the season. Developed a new method for catching the bees. When I shook the branch containing the swarm, the queen must have landed on me. Quite a few of the girls decided that I was a good resting place. Kept them on me for about 15 minutes before having a shake in front of their new home.

Just picked up a swarm last night. Quite a big one. It was about a metre long. Needed two boxes to hold it.
The hive was positioned next to the swarm and the branch containing it was cut. The bees then started to march in.

Off to the markets this morning to sell a bit of honey. Made up a display hive to give people a chance to look at bees doing their stuff and hopefully ask a few questions.

How did you get the queen to go to her new home?
if most of the bees are in the box, they will signal the queen and the rest to come to unite. sometimes they go right in, sometimes they fly out again. best way is to find the queen, put her in a cage and into the hive. then pheromone will do the rest and everyone will join the hive.
also it can help to use frames that were already used by another queen for laying eggs. its suggerates "a good free home" and helped me a lot to get them in. if the swarm is high in trees, so you cant get all bees, it the best chance to get them down.

Just checked the bees this morning to see how my comb honey was progressing. There is a bit of a flow on at the moment and the girls are doing what they do best. Combs are well drawn
and nectar is being stored in the frames.
Hopefully there will be a harvest in a few weeks.

If they stick around The Queen must be there somewhere, I wouldn't touch then for a while. Good Luck
