Yes.... it had crossed my mind. Googling them atm.
Can’t seem to find any that shape....

Brass curtain or bell pull, possibly would have had a rope, sash cord fitted to it.

Yep, it has been split along that edge and it’s symmetrical pattern wise.
I think it may have been slightly convex in shape.

Interesting one OzzieAu! Hard to tell in the condition it's in, but I think you might have had it right in the first guess.
The pattern on the bottom of it is very reminiscent of cutlery to me. In fact, I have a set that has a very similar pattern on it!
A knife handle is my first vote, but I don't discount Manpa's suggestion of some kind of curtain pull with the open edge to it either.
Would be good know if it's been squashed flat - it would help the ID.
