    How To Identify Real Gold?

Hello everyone! I think today I may have found my first gold piece of jewellery on the beach! I need a bit of help though in determining if it is real gold or if it is some other kind of metal. It's a bit beaten up and scratched. I can't see any marking on it saying how many karats or...

    ⭐ Fossil show and tell

Some great specimens in this thread! These were found late last year, and the one on the left was the first vertebrate fossil I ever found (after collecting only plants and shells for more than 6 years). It's a pair of two articulated Ichthyosaurus vertebrae and another single Ichthy vertebra...

Fantastic finds, how did you get the pennies looking so clean? Did they come out like that or you cleaned them up?

    2013 finds Paleoworld-101

Hey guys, Metal detecting has been going good recently and I have crossed the $30 mark in modern change (found on the beach mostly) but of particular interest has been a few predecimal coins that I recently pulled from my front and back yard. 90% of what I dig in my yard is trash so finding...

Value Of 1942 Half Penny + How To Clean?

Hey guys, I just found this 1942 Half Penny in my backyard. It was literally on the surface eroding out of the dirt. I was walking along and saw a round coin shaped thing in the dirt, picked it up and sure enough it was a 1942 Half Penny. No metal detector required :D The front is mostly...

    Beach Detecting Information and Questions

Hi everyone, I have a Garrett Ace 250 and have been using it on the beach for the past month or so now. I usually go out for a detect every couple days or so. I have not done badly by any means, up to about 80 coins totalling around $28 as well as a couple small bits of jewellery with what I...

    2013 finds Paleoworld-101

According to that Gold Coast site, the 1957 coin could be worth anything between $1.20 and $15. What grade/quality do you think the coin is? I am not familiar with grading so have no idea what aUNC or VF even stand for.

    2013 finds Paleoworld-101

Hey guys, Well I got my Garrett Ace 250 metal detector a few weeks ago, and have so far only used it a little bit on the beach. My main hunting ground has been my front lawn actually, and out of the 35 coins pictured below that I have found with my detector, 33 of them came from my front lawn...

The Steropodongalmani Opalised Fossil From Lightning Ridge N.S.W.

Wow, it is so great to have you on the forum Alex! It is my goal in life to become a Paleontologist, and I will hopefully be studying Paleobiology at Macquarie University from next year. I saw that article about you and the fish from Canowindra, is it true the museum is shifting its focus away...

Garrett Ace 250 Information & Questions

Hi everyone! I just got my Garrett Ace 250 today in the post. It took a record 16 business days to arrive, for a while there I thought it was genuinely lost! So glad it finally showed up. Pheww! Anyway, I got it late arvo so only had about 30 minutes to take it for a spin but I managed to find...

    Tassie fossils

Wow, they look remarkably similar to Brachiopods and Bryozoans that I have found up here in Sydney. Even the rock looks exactly the same. Nice specimens!
