    SDC2300 essential extras

Go to a sports shop and buy some tennis racket handle tape. Use that on the handle of the 2300. Buy a minelab armrest cuff (or get it thrown in for free when you buy the detector) and adapt it to fit where the silly minelab one is. A piece of PVC pipe cut and shaped works well. Work out whether...

Gemstone and mineral geology applied to prospecting course

Goldierocks, you were a lucky man to have worked at Tsumeb. I ran across this page a while ago http://www.mineralmasterpiece.com/Localities/Tsumeb.htm Work is not quite how I would describe it when surrounded by all those magnificent pieces.

    telstra tuff max smart phone.

I have one of those phones and apart from me getting used to it, no problems. Out here there is no choice but Hellstra so despite my dislike of them and their behaviour I shut my trap and put up with them. Any dealings are done by officious bitch of a daughter (very handy to have I might add)...

    dryblower fans?

there is a pic somewhere out on the interweb thingy that shows a 5 or 6 bank keene dryblower in Sudan. each one is running a bouncy castle type blower fan. I have played with them as dryblower fans but scraping and detecting intervened and that project is on hold.

    Minelab SDC2300 information and questions

try the pick magnet near the control box and it will scream like a banshee. Discovered this one day when I was getting tired and things got a tad tangled up.

how does your sdc2300 behave ?

I have been out of range for a while so my previous attempt at a reply was lost into the "somewheres". So here is my experience with the SDC for any who wish to read. At present I am using this machine to make my living, usually in a scrape and detect situation but also free ranging, so to...

MDing with a metal plate in foot?

Look on the bright side, it will be the best thing that ever happened to your detecting. You will have to go slow and control the swing.

Cooking with LPG inside a Caravan

Gas bottle must be outside. You can buy a metal box that will allow it to be fitted in the side of the van, but it will have vents to the outside. Propane is heavier than air so it will find its way to the lowest point and accumulate while it waits for a source of ignition. Carbon monoxide is...

    Minelab SDC2300 information and questions

Paul_mac, you are on the money with the battery positive terminal size. the problem appears to be all about the spring connection not being able to keep contact with the battery positive button. Taping the batteries keeps them still in the case but the contact can still be sloppy if the lid is...

    Dry Blower refurb

There would be no gusts as this is a constant air type. Do the Keene ones have slots as well or are they just sitting on mesh? I thought their matting was designed to stop stuff falling through. Either way it will be no big deal to place cloth down first and the matting on top. The riffles are...

    Dry Blower refurb

Here are two pics oft he remains of the trays. One has zilch left of the "top" and t'other has about half. At present my thoughts are to rebuild the lower parts of the trays and then cover with mesh followed by keene matting and some DIY version of the Keene riffle system. Tomorrow though...

    Dry Blower refurb

We have scored an old dryblower and are in the process of refurbishing it. It is a six tray blower type and the trays are completely shot. I can find or figure out all the mechanical issues and will have no problems wiith any of that but the design and building of the trays/riffle box whatevers...

WA Western Australia Information and Questions

40 E is only for exploration leases. Pending leases of any type are available for detecting on, however if it is a pending "mining" lease it is probably over an already granted lease so it is not available for detecting. Sounds odd I know but that is how it works. Check Tengraph before going on...

How to melt your own gold

We have done this a few times, using old crucibles, carbon rods and a Tig inverter. You need to have the arc well above the gold, otherwisw it becomes plasma and is infused/splattered all over the inside of the crucible. I don't know why it would be considered dangerous Heatho. The main issue...

Harness the power of your car for hydraulics

Some early 90's Camrys had a fan that was run from the Power steering pump. Also applies to some Lexus of the same vintage and some late 90's Cherokees's (Jeep's anyway not certain of the model). Lovely little Toyo motors which should be available from older style wreckers. How will you go...

    Minelab SDC2300 information and questions

Scrounger's problem with the supplied headphones is not unusual. The lead is too short, which means the plug on the end gets damaged. That plug is a one-off and cannot be replaced. There are all sorts of creative ways to overcome this issue, like contracting the shaft when digging the target...

    Minelab SDC2300 information and questions

the one I saw was a side mounted speaker, but the same idea. Very nice unit you have there, the modded armrest makes life much easier. Mine is similar and far less tidy. Try some of the padded tape around the handle as well. It makes a long day in the field less difficult.

    Minelab SDC2300 information and questions

Back to the original question about boosters, the Minelab dealer in Karratha was selling an aluminium bracket that screws up to the handle area. You pluck the original screws and using the supplied longer ones screw on the plate. Then you clip your speaker to it and now the sound is coming...

    Minelab SDC2300 information and questions

I agree that any dangling lead will cause trouble and was trying to reinforce the instructions printed on the manufacturers sheet, not criticizing the lead itself. Using headphones can put a lot more stress on whatever is used to "tether" the lead and its junctions. At $100 plus for the lead it...

    Minelab SDC2300 information and questions

Been using the Frillneck for several years now. Added advantage is the area of face exposed to flies can be adjusted by pulling the frills further forward and using a peg to clip the bottoms together. Headphones are the only way to go with the SDC as wind distorts the small sounds. Your choice...
