Exactly, I chased a target down 6" to find a .22 casing on the edge of the hole, the pin pointer was angled toward that side as I put it down the hole---pinpointers fault? Nope, operator error, like most detector problems.

Have to disagree with your assumption pinpointers are a gimmick & useless, they are very useful when coin & relic hunting, which is what they were designed for, not for picking up gold, all about coil size & frequency for small gold.

If your getting it for a good price it'll do the trick, I still have the ex-terra 70 & won't part with it they were pretty good in their day, as long as you understand what frequencies of the coils to use for what goodies your searching for you'll be good, if it hasn't got the manual I think...

You can pop the cover off & wash any sand out, the idea of taping was to stop mineralized dirt from getting in & giving false targets, not sure sand will do that.

I'll throw in my 2cents worth, I got my GM to specifically nose around creek beds with the small coil, I suggest you use the bigger coil as you cover more ground, you won't lose that much small gold, it will get a bit ho-hum using the small coil when after 1hr detecting & you have only gone 5...

No matter if you have a tent or swag, on the ground or on a cot, wack one of those silver sunscreens you put on the dashboard that's for a truck under your mattress & it reflects all the lost body heat back at ya, you can put it under your sleeping bag but sometimes they work too good depending...

Just thought there would be more owners reporting on the good, the bad & the ugly of it seeing it's been out for a while now.

Any thoughts on the manticore are VERY noticeable by their absence, 1 post then nothing, would have thought there would be a bit more airplay with a new unit out & about or is it a dud for Australian conditions?

This might sound weird, but if you have a pin pointer you could hide it in a pocket & bring it out to check the boots on the shelf.

Ended up finding them at Bunnings in the webbing/rope section, 50mm, fits good, the original have a bigger clip system, this one fits & is cheap. Thanks for the ideas!

Has anyone replaced the front plastic clips on the front of the belt section? Some boofhead stepped on his & broke one side.

I also will put in a plug for the D-Max, I have a 2013 & only thing that's dropped it's bundle is aftermarket shocks & aftermarket springs, all operator error.
