Request for Feed Back on Subaru Outback or Forester Experiences

I've got a 2007 non-turbo SG9 Forester dual range 5 speed with 280K's on it and still going strong. With the SG non-turbos you can usually expect to have to replace the head gaskets around 100 - 150K. Other than that, they tend to be very reliable. Ground clearance can be improved with a lift...

Anybody live near or planning to visit Norton goldfield?

Apologies for the late reply, haven't visited this thread in a while. We were last up there a fair while ago, so my memory of the exact location is a bit hazy. To put things in context, first a bit of history that I extracted from the heritage register report linked earlier in the thread...

News About Historical Cowra (Cowarra) Creek Gold Mine

Have you read Dust & Dreams by Barry McGowan? Covers the Cowra Ck and Cowarra settlements pretty extensively and more focused on life on the goldfields rather than just the mining aspects. I can lend you my copy some time if you havent.

News About Historical Cowra (Cowarra) Creek Gold Mine

Younger bloke? Might have been one of his sons, theyre not as friendly. Or it might have been the bloke that put the gates up on Dowling FT on the eastern side of the creek. Hes not too fond of visitors for some reason.

News About Historical Cowra (Cowarra) Creek Gold Mine

Not sure mate, maybe it's a pastoral lease of some sort. The frustrating part is that you could probably find 10 govt produced maps which will tell you 10 different things. I guess the easiest way to find out would be to ask the guy who reckons he "owns" the land if you ever come across him out...

News About Historical Cowra (Cowarra) Creek Gold Mine

Yeah there is some interesting stuff out there. I think one of my first posts on here years ago was a photo of my bike parked on the cricket pitch at the old recreation reserve, while I was out there detecting. I never found much detecting around there either.

News About Historical Cowra (Cowarra) Creek Gold Mine

Muddy, are you talking about the dam near the old 1800's Cowra Ck township, or the one further north near the Cowarra BHP mines? Maybe the govt has some involvement from an environmental perspective, given the mess that BHP left out there around the settlement pond, but the cocky was adamant...

Can you recommend a motorbike to me ?

If the budget is not an issue, having a couple of different sized bikes gives you more options. Ive still got both of the bikes I posted pictures of in this old thread - https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=193890#p193890

Can you recommend a motorbike to me ?

DR650 or a DRZ400 if you want something smaller. Youll look at lots of bikes and probably end up with one of those. Ticks all the boxes.

News About Historical Cowra (Cowarra) Creek Gold Mine

Its funny, a bit earlier today I was thinking of taking a ride out there in the coming weeks, then I came across this post. The landowner whose property you ride through to get to Cowra Creek told me he owned all of the land that the mines are on, so I dont see how a government official could...

    Prospecting in Wee Jasper

Like Eldorado said, Oallen Ford is a good spot to find some colour in your pan. A bit further away, but Tuena is good for a weekend away and you are free to roam most of the creek. If campings not your thing the general store has a cabin behind it that they rent out on Airbnb, you can just...
