My New SteelPhase SP01 First Outing

I went in to Coiltek Maryborough with a suspected battery audio issue and left with a new SP01, the battery was fine by the way. I had been toying with buying an SP01 but they are few and far between at the moment so I didn't hesitate when I saw it. Today I went to a well worked gully not far...

    ⭐ Gold Detecting Show'n Tell

You're right Phil, we don't change them often, I have just swapped my Evo's around - the 12x8 was on for about 3 months. It appears to me also that the 6000 is very well suited to the WA Goldfields because on the whole what I see come out of the ground is very shallow so the difference in depth...

    Detecting the Flats beside workings

Thanks fellas, I was talking to the blokes in at Coiltek today and they know the area I mean and have found gold there. They said they know gold has been found on the flats so I will definitely put a bit of time in and see if I can get some. Looks like it's time to dust off the NF 16" and...

And the multi ounce nuggets keep coming dadaaaa:)

I wouldn't mind me one or more of those! Very well done👍

    ⭐ Gold Detecting Show'n Tell

Yes I agree, you can't beat the range of coils by a long shot. I reattached my 12" Evo yesterday and got a 0.5g at 10". Now there is no doubt a 6 would find that but I was impressed because when I got it out the tiniest tip of the piece was showing - the rest was wrapped in a ball of clay...

    Detecting the Flats beside workings

Hi all, I would be interested to have your thoughts on detecting the flats beside old workings. I have noticed that where there is a run of shallow diggings following the old watercourse or in a shallow gully that there are sometimes large flats on each side where the ground is shallow as...

    ⭐ Gold Detecting Show'n Tell

Thanks Grubstake - a 6000 would probably take me years to get it to pay for itself if I was finding similar gold. The weight of a 6000 and ease of use does appeal though. In an ideal world I would have the trifecta - old trusty 4500, 6000 and a 7000!

    ⭐ Gold Detecting Show'n Tell

Hi all, Well done with all of your recent finds. I have been logging on intermittently just not posting. It's always great to see hard work pay off when we pull another piece of this extraordinary metal from the ground. I thought I would post a tally of my last 6-8 outings, I can't quite...

    ⭐ Gold Detecting Show'n Tell

Well done, you should be impressed. Many people find none. The evo is a fantastic coil, it has found me a lot of gold since I bought it and it is very good on small gold. I think my smallest with it goes .03g

    Brass Mystery Object

Hi all, a friend of mine found this at the beach while detecting. Any thoughts on what it might be? It's about 7cm long and quite heavy. He thought perhaps an old scent bottle? I can't really see an internal thread but it does almost look like a finial or top off something....

GPX4500 Coil choice for wet ground

Hi Hamsy, As Wilson has stated above, the 4500 is not losing depth, it's just our ability to discern targets from ground noise and other conditions. I own a 4500 and I cannot speak highly enough of its capability. Admittedly I am in the GT and you are in a different area but we have very...

    ⭐ Gold Detecting Show'n Tell

I haven't posted finds for a while so I thought I would show these from the last two days. The single piece was at Warrenmang right on top of a Mullock, someone had scraped and walked away. It screamed like wire which is why I guess they thought it was trash, lucky me. The nine bits were from...

Selling gold - how, why, where

I sell most of the gold I find, it is all from the GT. My Melbourne gold buyer melts it all down first which helps get rid of dirt and other impurities. Then they take a reading of the melted lump with an XRF machine. I can say I have never been disappointed by this method and the gold is...

    Relic Identification Help please

Hi Nightjar, you have a silver plate spoon. English sterling usually has three typical marks. The town mark (where it was assayed), for example an anchor for Birmingham, a Crown for Sheffield etc. The sterling mark (lion passant) which looks like a lion standing sideways and the date letter...

Skidplate and coil tape - information and questions

Nitto, as Hounddog says, it has a good stretch and takes the form of the coil. It's cheap too.

    Knee Pads

I wear Yakka pants when detecting. They have pockets on each knee to insert padding. I bought a neoprene ipad case from the op shop for $1 and cut it to fit the pockets. That way I don't have to bother with straps etc. 👍

How did you lose your { gold} cherry?

1984 for me. I grew up around Castlemaine and each year our school would run activities before the Christmas holidays. One of them was gold panning Forest Creek which runs through town. I'll never forget it, there was gold in every pan, no joke! But super fine, not enough you make you rich...
