    Talk about bake a cake.

42.6 is warming up a bit, knocks you around a bit when temps get that high. I lived up in Mildura, Vic between 1999 & 2007, pretty hot up there, plenty of days over 40, but when we hit 47.5 that was a killer, people were even baking eggs on the footpath to show how hot they were. Another place I...

    hello all from mildura

Welcome to the forum Steve, good luck on the block, hope it has some good colour. I lived in Mildura myself a few years back, & Euston & Robinvale as a kid, good place up there.

    Bacchus Marsh victoria. any gold

I wouldn't mind having another look myself one day & seeing if I can find the old mine, can't see much on Google maps but I can see where the hut was. There are big cats up through there as well. Might have to get onto my old man & see how far from the it was from the cabin.

    Bacchus Marsh victoria. any gold

Back in the day my Grandfather had land up in the gorge, leased I think, across from where the big parking area & park is, they had a cabin built from river rock, this was well before I was born in 1972, think my dad was only a young teen maybe.(born in 48). My grandfather had a gold mine there...

Scales to weigh your gold - advice please

A good set of scales from a hunting/firearm store for gun powder & ammo reloading will do the job. Any decent hunting shop would have decent reloading scales/gear.

Newbie wanting to get his hands wet

Check out the Gold Rat highbankers & river sluices, very good quality products & they have the Dream mat on them as well which works great. Top quality, they work very well & are Australian made. The river sluices have an optional power head so you can hook up a pump & run it like a highbanker.

    Got a little Sluice cheap.

Yeah selling, weld pretty much sold anyway. As I go out my myself most of the time its much easier to carry a river sluice & pans etc & not try to cart everything needed for the highbanker. Reason for not liking small mesh is that it sits virtually flay & even a picker like the .22gr I got...

    Vortex Dream Mat

Guessing 8 inch wide, how long.?

    Got a little Sluice cheap.

I use the spaghetti type backed mat from Bunnings, it works reasonably well I think. Was going to put ribbed or Vortex mat in the hopper but I think gold would probably be washed out because of the spray bar set up. It still has the small expanded mesh which I don't really like, not sure if I'd...

    Got a little Sluice cheap.

Its been going good, haven't worried about any other changes though, I was going to but didn't think it was much use as it works good enough as is.

Sluice or highbanker mats / matting

Looks like the close woven stuff to me, similar to some I have here, also have the slightly loser woven mat which I have in the highbanker, it works well. I would think the close woven mat like you have might catch fines better than the loser woven mat but I haven't tried it yet. Check out the...

    Sluicy GS10 high banker question

Yeah its a 12v bilge, the batteries I use are around 20kg each so I have a box trolley or fridge trolley or whatever they are called. Have a milk crate for the bottom tray part that the battery sits in & then a tub with pump/hose etc & the GS10 in top of the tub.

    Sluicy GS10 high banker question

I use the backed moss stuff from Bunnings in a GS10, well its actually a door mat but I find it works well & when checking tailings I have only ever found 1 or 2 tiny bits of gold. It has the standard riffles & expanded mesh it comes with but made my own spraybar & run it off a 3700gph bilge...

    ⭐ Alluvial Show n Tell

Recently received (gift), a new 8 inch Gold Rat river sluice with Dream Mat, looks to be a very good quality bit of gear. I added a piece of Gold Cube Vortex mat to the inlet to help catch everything. Hopefully get out tomorrow to give it a test run.

What are you doing when you are not in the prospecting?

Some nice looking gardens there, not much of a green thumb myself though. My other hobby is 1/8 scale radio control offroad nitro buggy racing, haven't raced much lately mainly due to weather but just rebuilt diffs & shocks & upgraded a few things so its ready to go. Hopefully get to one of the...
