What am I hearing? Native animal? Ghost? Bunyip? Any ideas?

I've never had the pleasure of hearing one. I was really lucky today, I saw 2 lyrebirds. Got a really good look too. 😌

What am I hearing? Native animal? Ghost? Bunyip? Any ideas?

I found an Android phone app called BirdNet, it's from some Australian university. It let's you record the sound and it'll help identify the bird making it.

    Amazing find crevicing the creek

I know that feeling. I lost an expensive flashlight in the bush and I was quite sad about it. On the bright side, it gave me a reason to buy an sdc2300.

    Amazing find crevicing the creek

They look very durable, comfortable, and fancy. Like a "Buy once, cry once" type of tool. I have "Big Bent" because I've always had it. I don't remember buying it but I did bend it 30 something years ago, and its been the most useful thing ever since. Now that I have "Pointy Boy", Big Bent will...

AlgoForce E1500 - NEW PI DETECTOR FROM EX MINELAB ENGINEER

You're right actually. Someone looking for their first detector is likely going to consider a used sdc2300, which is right around the $3000 price point at this time.

    Amazing find crevicing the creek

For the holiday weekend, I went to my favourite creek to scratch out a few cracks. Using my DIY crack scratcher, which is a large, bent, flat-head screwdriver, I cleared out about 5 or 6 cracks for almost no gold. But my luck changed on the 7th one. As I got to the bottom I felt my tool scrape...

Specific Gravity test help - Gold and quartz

I wish that you were my high school maths teacher. The question of "Why do we need to know this?" is answered right here.

Is this gold? My son found it smashing rocks at Kenilworth.

It looks like a rather wonderful little pyrite specimen. I say that because there's a little chunk at the top that looks rather cuboid. Its a nice find. I wonder, how many of those ugly brown rocks have a shiny filling?

    Can anyone help identify this

Just don't do this indoors, in case of Arsenopyrite.

    Salters rush gully?

That strip of crown land is a river frontage and the rules for such are outlined here... https://www.forestsandreserves.vic.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0017/540710/DELWP-Crown-river-frontage_A-guide-to-access-and-recreational-use.pdf However this doesn't provide a clear answer. It mentions...

Black Sand, what is it worth?

OK, fair enough. I did a quick search for it and found only a few posts. One stood out that alarmed me regarding the use of gloves with aqua regia. I just want to take the opportunity to say that latex and nitrile gloves do not protect you, they make nitric acid burns worse by bursting into...

Black Sand, what is it worth?

Hi, I just wanted to ask about the chemical gold recovery. I'm versed in the use of aqua regia to dissolve gold into solution. Is discussing that against the rules here?

    How good is this?

I'd never thought of booby traps, and I'm glad I haven't discovered any. Though it might not be all bad as booby trap spelled backwards is "party boob", which sounds kinda nice. 😆

    How good is this?

I used to read stories about hidden treasure and secret underground tunnels, always in other countries, and often lamented that "We just didnt have that kind of stuff here." It's as obvious to me now, as it is to you, just how wrong I was. I love the feeling of following the tracks that the...

    Dryblower, Drywasher

I like the bellows style because it is very portable as it does not require a compressor or blower. It can be rather quiet depending on the build, and can even be hand operated.

    Hi all.

Hi everyone, I'm lostandfound, new to the forum, and fairly new to prospecting. I know a little, and am hoping to learn a lot. I especially enjoy the diy aspect of this hobby. So far I've panned a few creeks in my part of Gippsland and found small amounts of gold. I like to drive out to the bush...
