I found my first decent quartz crystal the other day in the Adelaide Hills (other than tiny stuff). Nothing super-fancy but I'm happy! The area had heaps of large lumps of quartz all over the place. I had a decent dig around where I found this one but didn't see anything else. Might have to go...

If someone were interested in finding small pieces of meteorite (to look at and then discard because they'd be SA Museum property) is it worth a wander around there?

Yep the kids make it fun. I think got about 2/3rds of the way to the summit yesterday with a 3.5-year-old on my shoulders before calling it quits. I'll have to try again in cooler weather - that afternoon sun with no shade is warm. Plenty of rocks up there but not much else.

Working on selling my wife on the same policy :D

G'day mate, how did you go out there? I'm hoping to get up to Mount Crawford at some point soon to have a look for some crystals. Not too fussed with what I find, just trying to get into things a bit. Any location tips would be great.

Yep that's the one. Horsnell Gully is a nice place for a hike, and the quarry is right next to it. I'm not allowed to post links yet but if you Google 'mindat white rock quarry quartz' there's a few photos of what's been found there.

How did you get on mate? I live pretty close to Horsnell Gully and have done a few walks past that quarry.
