    G'day from FNQ

Welcome to the forum Lance! I lived in a Cairns for a few years, a great spot, sometimes hard to get traction making a prospecting mate via the forum but worth a shot. If you find a patch of gold though and ask a new mate to come and hit it with you, a friend for life and then they can return...

    Prospecting buddy around Cooroy Gympie

Afternoon Rusty, From experience, my advice is to just get out there and start giving it a crack. You meet heaps of champions around the goldfields and stations in Queensland and yarns flow freely around the campfire. Good luck Regards Gavin

    Attack of the camels!!

Noticed a pair of these shoes in a store up here in FNQ a few months ago and thought they were interesting apologies about the poor quality photo. - Soles are made of emu feathers and the uppers from human and animal hair.

    battery recommendation for camping

I've been using a Coleman Lithium rechargeable lantern for the past year. Lasts for many a night in a row and top it up every now and again when the cars running. I don't stay up late though when out in the bush unless I am fishing hard.

    Cyclones

Noted Jaros and always good to keep an eye on these things when you live up in FNQ

    Finding lead shot

I think on some fields the old diggers habitually used to fire off their weapons up in the air on dusk. It was a way of displaying firepower and deterring thieves. Probably also helped keep the weapons in good nick after a day on the pan in your claim. Not sure about the prevalence of shotguns...

    Howdy from Cairns

Thanks SteveG, Will be awesome to check out the above locations in the coming dry season. Not as much access as Victoria but a few less detectors swinging over the ground and always happy to pay to detect as keeps the lifestyle nice and relaxing. Kicking back in the bush with the machine...

Welcome Alison, There is a lot of information on this website, I found the searching some of the posts handy when setting up my detector to run nice and quiet and also reinforced the general prospecting mindset of leaving minimal impact and enjoying the bush. Regards Gavin

Gold Prospecting, Detecting, General information/interest books

I have a copy coming in the post! Its interesting to think about the these isolated fields heaving with the industry and noise of 20-30,000 diggers.

Boots for Prospecting, Hiking, Detecting information and questions

The Olivers AT are a good rugged boot. I have had mine for two years and plan to use them for another eight depending on how they like the tropics up here in Cairns! Nothing a generous bit of dubbin wont fix!

    Howdy from Cairns

Quick intro to say Gday, I moved to Cairns with the family about six months ago, driving up from Victoria. Its been good being up in this neck of the woods!! As well as bringing 12 fishing rods on my roof rack I also brought my 4500. I have been successfully removing many shotgun pellets from...
