    Huge Signal From Quartz Seam

This seam of quartz in a creek gives off a massive signal on an SDC 2300 at the location of the white chip in the quartz, there is a 150mm dia bulge in the quartz at this point. Surely this MUST be gold. How do you get it out??

Can Anybody Suggest What This Rock Might Be?

Thanks mbasko, I have also brought quarter of a bucket of black / grey sand back with me to our accommodation to pan, as I was getting a huge signal from that as well. I guess it could be ground up basalt. I've just been fooled by all the iron rich rocks I have come across in Australia being...

Can Anybody Suggest What This Rock Might Be?

Currently on holiday in Scotland & wanted to have a hunt for some Scottish Gold. Using an SDC2300 these rocks give a signal like a rusty horse shoe - very loud. No rusty colour to the rock though to suggest ironstone. If anything it resembles blue stone. Also a lot of blackish/grey sand at edge...

Mozzies And Fly Status GT Vic.

March flies around Heathcote were pretty dense a couple of weeks ago. Seemed to be attracted to the heat from the engine rather than us though which was good. Found my first speccie though, so didn't notice them so much after that! Paid my first visit to Creswick couple of weeks ago. Had been...

    ⭐ Gold Detecting Show'n Tell

OK, thanks for that, wasn't sure if that conglomerate material was undisturbed or was material that had been washed 160 years ago & then had solidified like concrete over that time. I find it interesting that the ground has been stripped to the bare rock alongside this area. I guess then, this...

    ⭐ Gold Detecting Show'n Tell

Found this in edge of this weathered gully. 0.13gr, it had a bit more stone & quartz adhered to it originally. Question is, area is heavily surfaced, see first couple photos, does this mean this area that is eroded, is through the material that was originally surfaced & stockpiled & has now set...

    GOLD SPECS IN QUARTZ

Thanks for that, will give the panning a go. Need to do a lot more crushing though to get the quartz down to that sandy consistency. The particles are very small, I would say equivalent to the smallest in your photo. So obviously of no monetary value just interest value.

    GOLD SPECS IN QUARTZ

Found a few lumps of quartz that look to have small specs of gold in them. Crushed one up a bit & there does appear to be gold dust as a result. Is there a way of determining whether it is gold or mica?

    ⭐ Gold Detecting Show'n Tell

First ever trip out detecting on Thursday, training day under the great guidance of Lachy Green from "Green And Gold Prospecting", only 5 minutes outside Epsom. lots of shotgun pellets, however found my first piece of gold in a bit of a wash after Wednesday's rain. Can highly recommend Lachy...

    INSECT REPELLENT

Thanks for that, have never heard of them before but I will give Natures Botanical Cream a go. Not cheap, but getting something that works is what is important. Maybe use the Aeroguard spray for the clothes & Natures Botanical for the skin.

    INSECT REPELLENT

Had a search through various sections of the Forum for advice on effective insect repellents. There is the occasional reference in passing in other topics, but couldn't find anything specific. Have seen "Bushman's" mentioned and of course "Aeroguard". Mozzies and flies are what I have in mind...

Posts By LOAMER On Reading The Land

I was reading through some brilliant posts from LOAMER started way back in 2013, which had some fantastic photos & information on how to read the land for likely areas to detect. My computer then crashed & I cannot recall where I picked up the posts from. Does anybody happen to have a link to...
