    Introduction

Welcome. Always getting out around Drake myself. It's a fun area to figure out, pretty heavily worked but there's always something to keep you interested.

    Hi Fellow prospectors

G'day Dale welcome. That's one area I really wanted to explore a bit more this year, those deep leads. Access looks to be the biggest problem, with the tracks and the terrain and private property and the no-go mining leases. Haven't looked at that exact spot, more to the west a little and to the...

❓Your Mineral Identification Questions answered here

The needle-like crystals remind me of stibnite. The whole rock kinda does. A worn broken off piece of massive Antimonite with Stibnite crystals growing in the voids? (Did I say that right?)

    Gotta love Ewingar Rocks

I was being polite haha. There are a few recent youtube vids as well. Not good. But fingers crossed it does open up for a while before it gets handed over, haven't been since before the fires.

    Gotta love Ewingar Rocks

Sorry to be a wet blanket but Ewingar SF is still officially closed (according to the forestry website). So is nearby Girard SF. I'm not saying not to go there, but maybe be careful posting online that you've been. I'd hate for the forestry dept to notice and put up gates or actually physically...

    Pumps

I've found that an 1100 gph bilge pump is just about right for running a single 6 inch dream mat. Only cost about $20 on ebay, runs off 12v power, only draws 3 amps or something. But the flow from the pump to the unit needs to be smooth, ie no right angles, no changes in pipe diameter. (Back...

Makro Gold Kruzer information and questions

Bought one of these a few years ago off ebay (pretty sure from phasetech). I've just had to purchase a new charging cable. It seems that the detector itself can survive being in a house submerged under floodwater, being tossed around with the furniture and everything else, then left covered in...

    Poverty Point- Drake area

How did you go, did you make it up there? Never been myself but have done a bit of research. One of those places that I'd like to explore but whenever I'm in the area I just end up going where there's guaranteed gold with guaranteed access haha. From historical records the gold appears to be...

    Wave wheel experiment

I wonder if a water wheel could be used to feed water to a sluice... With no pumps being allowed in nsw

Drake, Tooloom, Tabulam Region NSW information and questions

The other day I was looking at a real estate website, and apparently the land around the lower reaches of Mcleods Creek is for sale. It's part of a new 14 lot sub-division. Not looking forward to it. Looking at it again now, I can see 5 properties for sale, between 30 and 100 hectares, $475000...

    Carrying your kit

That's what I do, use a small carabiner and clip it on. Only downside is when it's really windy, it can flip up and hit you in the head haha The pan I normally use is 35cm so it fits in my bag anyway. I prefer panning with it cos it's quicker, I've got bigger pans that hold twice as much...

Trying to find Alluvial gold in NSW for a hand crafted wedding ring

There's gold on the beaches if you know what beaches to look. Actually forget the beach gold, go metal detecting. I've got a mate who goes checks beaches, parks, playgrounds etc when out with his kids, he's found way more gold in the form of lost jewellery than I've found fossicking in creeks...

Trying to find Alluvial gold in NSW for a hand crafted wedding ring

Sometimes, but not always, the creek I usually go to is quite the opposite. Over time creeks cut their way down into the country rock, getting deeper and deeper, forming valleys. This creek is still making its way deeper, so digging deep puts you deeper than the creek has ever been. There's a...

Panning techniques and a few other questions?

When I first started there was a youtube video by wal'n'liz which proved to be very helpful. It was basic panning or something. Explained it in a simple, straightforward manner all the steps and what they are meant to achieve (classifying, stratifying etc). One of the big takeaways for me, was...

    Ewingar state forest

I just wrote a long rant about the NSW LNP and their slimy tactics. Deleted it. About how they offset new coal and gas developments with new national parks, for their public image.

    Ewingar state forest

Thanks for the heads up just looked at the website and looks like no fossicking allowed in Ewingar. Hopefully only temporary because of fire damage or logging

Drake, Tooloom, Tabulam Region NSW information and questions

G'day Don, yeah pretty sure Ewingar is still shut. Haven't had a look since last year because of all the rain; even if it was open the road (track) turns into a bog with rain. Still wanting to get out there soon hopefully. With Mcleods the south would probably be the go. Much easier access, more...

Dredging in Australia for recreational activities IS illegal..

I've never seen anyone mention it on here so here goes; to me the primary reason for not allowing dredging (and highbanking) is to ensure the resource (gold deposits) lasts as long as possible. So people can keep going back and keep finding enough gold to keep it interesting for years and years...
