    Qld sapphire formation

This is a very interesting address given by Jim Elliot, 2003. A very good understanding for diggers when assessing a sapphire and the area it was found in. THE FORMATION OF QUEENSLAND SAPPHIRE RESOURCES - AN ALTERNATIVE THEORY! Taken from an address by Jim Elliot at the Central Queensland...

    Americans call them Yooperlites

I will try and add a Youtube vid on what the title calls Yooperlites. Two days before this video appeared I picked up a stone almost identical to the stone at 19 seconds, stop the vid and see. In daylight the stone is mottled / speckled grey, whites and blacks. So I got into the hall closet with...

People losing precious stones after purchase

In the last two days I have met two people who have picked up expensive stone on the side of the footpath in Rubyvale. One stone was a 4+ct green sapphire in its purchase bag, I saw the stone, beautiful; the other was a large skin polished sapphire, wire wrapped, laying in the grass beside the...

This information, following, was posted by Wayne Emery, a high profile facetor in the USA. In my opinion it is very good information, though it is not the way...

It is reported on the 'Australian Lapidary Group' Facebook page that a miner in Tasmania has had a portion of his mined supply of Pyrolusite stolen from his secured diggings: "Shane Stanfield 21 hrs Hi all! I wish there was a nice way to say this but... Some low life piece of shit has been...

    It was only a dream

My lady had a dream last night, it was about an app, a phone app. Take your newly dug stone, get out your mobile and hit the gem identification app. The app comes out of your phone and floats, in real time, before you. You place your newly dug gem into the app and the gem blobs around in a gel...

    Faceting Designs

http://www.osirisgems.com/Designs.html I often think when finished gems are posted the designs should be posted with it, not just the name of the design but the plan as well (indexes and angles).

    Density of ruby

I have had an online search and a search in this forum but so far no luck. Does synthetic ruby have the same density as natural ruby? I have what I believed to be 2 specimens of natural ruby. One I have tested and it appears to be Apophyllite, not ruby with a density of 2.38. The other is Sri...
