Creswick

Hello everyone,

I am a new prospector who is planning a trip to Creswick, Victoria, and I am seeking some advice on the best creeks to pan and sluice in the area. I've heard that there is a lot of gold to be found in the region, and I'm hoping to make the most of my trip by targeting the most productive creeks.

If anyone has any tips on the best creeks to pan and sluice in Creswick, I would be very grateful. I am particularly interested in finding creeks that are relatively easy to access and that have a good reputation for producing gold.

Additionally, I am also looking for recommendations on where to metal detect in the area. I will be bringing a Gold Monster 1000 detector with me.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

Much is restricted around Creswick (although a great place to start). Check where you can go and what you are allowed to do.

Maybe the recent rains have helped, but I was up in Creswick only two weeks ago and was pretty much bone dry. I have the Gold Kruzer, so swung that around for a bit, picked up leadshot, aluminium foil, crusty bits of metal and retreated back home with my tail between my legs.

But you might have better luck than me!

I was at Creswick on March the 12th and again on the 18th. There isn't much water about at all. I have some large tubs and found a puddle of water under a fallen tree innthe creek. I had to carry 2x 10l buckets 300m 5 times to fill my 2x tubs so i could pan into them (sorry yabbies for steeling your water). After about 4hrs the water is pretty thick.

I have some hoilidays just after easter i will be spending in Creswick on the 10th to 14th. I hope there is water then as i am just finishing up my highbanker project.

Thanks everyone! Didn’t end up going to creswick i went to wombat forest instead. Only found a tiny little spec from one of the creeks on yankee road
