My wife and I are notorious scavengers, skulking the aisles of supermarkets for their "reduced to clear" treasure spots.
Our local Woolies is a fairly small store by woolies standards and seems to have more than their fair share of items. The reduced to clear items are usually meat but never out of date just close to date and we buy them up and just freeze them.
Yes we eat cheap but well and are still alive.
One find was a pork shoulder roast for about half price ($11-12 from memory). It sat in the freezer for a while and came out only when our old fridge died last week. Had almost forgotten about it. Cooked up beautifully with good crackling and we each had two main meals and two lunches (Pork rolls) - that's 8 meals all up.

I have tried many methods but either get the crackle rock hard or soggy and malleable.Wot's your recipe for crackling.

Close to Out of date meat.... Most i have found, The rotting process has already started.... Sick n tired of returning things to a Certain overseas owned Shop... We buy from a Butcher now and He goes out of his way to help us out.. He knows our situation... If i have No $$ to pay for food, He has always said 'Thats ok... Here is a KG of Sausages to get you buy..... "... TOP BLOKE....

My life on Groote... From a worker who WAS going to be there for 12mths... but our company pulled out of the contract early so only 6mths for Our safety......

.... From Dusk to Dawn All workers were confined In their Dorms At night With Security Guards and a 6 foot electric fence for Our Protection. We worked 7 days a week as being confined If not working was no fun with-out a cold beer .. Some of us flew out on a weekend just to have a cold beer and not to have to look over our shoulder every second.... . Sad to see the Real life some live.... Never again ... Oh and NEVER let the Females get a bit of your hair.... They do some magic voodo on it and can send some Men well over the edge of Strangeness....

We buy pork roasts when they are cheap and carve off a few slices which we fry up like steaks. With a few vegetables they make an excellent meal and we still have a small roast for later.

Australia is losing its unique identity?

A ever increasing trend is the Yankee language is creeping into our everyday lifestyle.
A recent enquiry at a dealer for information about a "TRAILER" was shocked with reply?
Where do you prefer the door situated?????
They thought I was referring to a "CARAVAN"
I'm a "True Blue" and get very pi**ed off with this very simple but annoying American invasion!

Must have been in the freezer for a decade if you bought it from Woolies for $11-12?????
Went into our store on Monday to get some cashews, a pack had jumped from $10 to $18. Aldis was the next port of call.

I remember when I was a kid going to high school I stated that we were following the US culture by about 6 years. I don't think it's changed much. The media can be blamed for most of it. Sometimes you'll even see an Australian website where their products are listed in USD and you don't know until you process your payment

Jeez, I'm really surprised about that. Was it a younger salesperson you were dealing with?

I've never heard an Australian refer to caravanning as 'trailering' or a caravan park as a 'trailer park'. And I hope I never do!

I don't mind some Americanisms or customs but yes, a caravan will always be referred to as a caravan in my books.

I wonder what they call a trailer? A tow behind? A carry-all? A tow tray? 🤔

My grandson who is 9 years old has been speaking with an American accent and "drawl" for the last few years. The reason is television and Internet. All of the shows, documentaries and particularly "cartoon" characters favour the US.
It seems to be the way now!

Get him watching Bluey. Made in Queensland, it's becoming a huge global success. Zero American accents involved.

not only the Australian identity is being lost but also respect & pride has all bar gone.
The crime of late in Australia is out of control. If it were me, I'd implement the Singapore way of dealing with the crap side of society.

I tell you how idiotic this place has become. Why on earth would you try and recover a economy by providing an industry with near 100% increase in revenue... namely the banks, particularly after they defrauded the public of funds via loan, insurance and super scams.

They say the way to recover an escalating CPI is to halt the spending. Well ok, why not increase GST and hit those who are actually doing the spending?? That way its not hitting those who already cant afford to spend. Eliminate the likelihood of people losing their homes!!! At least do a 50/50 increase split with home loan rates and GST

But nope, AGAIN the rich are getting fat along with banks and the crooks.
Crime pays in this country

Not all cartoon characters mate get the kid to watch Bluey as the American kids are now and their parents are complaining that they have Australian accents.

It annoyed me since I was a young teenager (especially singing of Australian ballads with a false American accent). However Australia started following the USA in the late 1800s, we just think it is new. After non-silent movies it accelerated, picked up more after WW2, and has really taken off with the internet.

The GST option is being considered. The banks are sitting pretty, but profits are mostly good relative to other business, but mediochre compared with business in the past. And it is from home loans, because as housing prices sky-rocketed, people took out bigger and bigger mortgages with the banks (who dominate the market).

"analysis of big four bank 2022 half-year results, has found that they had a combined cash profit after tax of $14.4 billion. That's up $700 million from the 2021 half-year results, or an increase of 5.1 per cent".
